Aegis's POV Jaxon dropped it on the table like it had offended him personally. The heavy book’s sound echoed through the room. Dust lifted into the air. I held my breath. “This is it,” he said. Of course it was. I stared at the cover. Dark leather. No title. No markings. Just dust and ash. “This is from the Royal Library’s private collection,” Jaxon added. “I couldn’t find any other books that mention anything about the Fire God.”

On Thursday, the other two books arrived. Ernest saw them on the hall table before Don did—a collection of essays by a Greek poet whose name Ernest did not recognize, and a slim volume about the food of northern Greece, specifically Thessaloniki. The food book was the smallest of the three, but it had been placed precisely on top of the other two, and Ernest recognized the placement as Don's—the particular organization of someone who had thought about the order of reading. The food book would be third. The essays would be second. The Byzantine history was first, and Don was already a hundred pages into it. At dinner, Ernest said: "Three books."

He had run out right after the fire message died out and it was now that he was returning again. Nevertheless, he was not alone. He had a big book in his hands that he carried and placed on the table with a thud. A cloud of dust squandered and mixed in the air not before it made alpha Kent and alpha Hercules to cough since they were sitting nearer to the table. "What is this, Mike?" Questioning the alpha friend of his, alpha Hercules approached the table as his friend opened the cover of the old book it was big and thick.

And before they could even ask just what exactly the goddess means by that, Athena suddenly re-opens the book up to somewhere in the last part, then out of nowhere, a bright blaze bursts forth in her hands. William yelps, recoiling, and nearly falling right out of the desk, “What are you—Athena, what are you doing?!” While Proserpina can only stare, stunned into bewildered silence–but there was a part of her that was completely horrified–as the goddess of wisdom simply brings the fire to meet the open book because, for real, what the hell is she doing?!

The words Kayhan had just spoken were still vibrating in the air, making my heart sink. Ifrit fire. I knew that name. I had seen it in the margins of forbidden texts, written in ink that looked like dried blood. It wasn’t just a normal fire, more like ancient Greek fire, almost impossible to extinguish. A sob escaped my throat, raw and uncontrollable, and suddenly I couldn’t breathe.
