And then came the fire.
Torches, hurled over the walls, ignited where they fell. Hay, oil, even the wooden beams of the stables caught, flames leaping high. Smoke coiled thick and choking, turning the sky into a shroud of gray. Panic rippled through the men as firelight danced in their eyes.
