The scent of ash and blood flooded the room, the same as the cloaked figure’s, but they were gone, the night outside silent except for the howling wind.
“Stay down,” I growled, scanning the shattered window. Nothing. No movement, no sound. But I knew they were out there, watching, waiting. Kane was feral, clawing at my control, desperate to hunt the threat. I forced him back, focusing on Autumn. Her green eyes were wide, her breath ragged, but she wasn’t hurt. Not yet.
