I gripped Elira tighter.
“Hold on,” I said, voice low but firm. “Whatever comes, we face it. Together.”
The shadows shifted. Green fire and smoke swirled, revealing the Bone Seer. Behind him, another presence glimmered—a tall figure of silver, impossibly bright, reflecting Elira’s eyes. My heart stuttered. The prophecy was fracturing before my eyes. What we feared, what we had prepared for, might already be too late.
The figure stepped closer, silver light clashing with green flames, casting impossible shadows across the courtyard. My pulse raced. Awe and terror twisted in my stomach. Elira stirred in my arms, thrumming with recognition, responding to something I couldn’t name.
