"I just turned the lights on so everyone could see the cracks." Avery looked at her reflection in the darkened window. She still wore the soot-stained sweatshirt, her hair matted with dried sweat and tunnel dust. "You’re gonna want to see this!" I turned the corner—and stopped dead. Avery. Her clothes were streaked with blood, torn, her feet bare and caked in dirt and something darker.
