She was dabbing a grey powder under my eyes. "Why are you making me look like a ghost?" I asked, looking in the small mirror. "I look like I haven't slept in a month." "That’s the point, you idiot," Adrian said from the doorway. He was drinking a coffee and looking at his watch. "Nobody sympathizes with a man who looks healthy and successful. We need you to look broken. We need you to look like a man who has cried every night for five years. We need The Victim look." The makeup artist added some red tint to the corners of my eyes to make them look bloodshot. She even messed up my hair so it looked thin and greasy.

I looked more like I was a punk rocker, rather than a businesswoman. My eyeliner and mascara were thick, unlike the other women that worked here. They looked as if they wore little makeup or had more of a natural look. It wasn’t like I didn’t like my style, but it was certainly different from everyone else. Shrugging my shoulders, I stopped caring about how different I was from everyone else. If they didn’t like my grunge style, then that was on them. I was who I was and didn’t care what others thought of me.

My make-up is represents Grinch—even though it’s not Christmas—while my attire is a shimmering black sleeveless gown with zigzag hems, which I top it with a woolen green shawl draped on my shoulders and a pair of green glittering wedge shoes to match. I don’t have much jewelries on simply because aunt Mellow and I have this thing in common where jewelries make us feel uncomfortable. Mine is especially because I sweat a lot. Out in the reception hall, there’s a rich crowd, all dressed in their own fashion and wearing their own figurative make-up. Some have on animal makeups like cats, some have on symbolic makeups, and others have on paranormal makeups like vampires, werewolves, dragons, elve

It was basic, and it was on the affordable side. The next several hours we spend going through clothes. I land on a gothic chic style. There are a lot of black, dark colors, torn-up jeans and leggings, fringy and lace details, combat boots, and leather jackets. Once we settled on a style, Blair had the initiates clear the other stuff away. We focus on clothes, accessories, and some makeup. I’m not a huge makeup fan, but I can get behind some mascara, eyeliner, and various shades of red lipstick.

I say. I head back to the packhouse and spend the next couple of hours getting ready for my party. Because it’s such a big deal, to everyone but me anyway, I have someone come in to do my hair and makeup. The dress I chose for tonight is a greyish-green color, something close to sage but lighter. It was the closest I could find to match my eyes. Alpha Quirin told me once that I have beautiful eyes, so I made a point to highlight them tonight.

I took in a deep breath and nodded yes, and she slowly spun me around in the chair that some of the men brought in for this occasion. Looking in the mirror, I could not believe my eyes, Lina, the makeup artist did a natural look on my face, so as to leave the feel of not much makeup on. My eyes are done up with a smokey grey look, highlighting the almond shape of my eyes, and my lashes look longer and fuller than they ever had, but not so long that they look fake.

I also put on a light make up and pick the best dress that I have with me. I choose to wear a gothic dress and pair it with tight high boots. My make up is light but I put on cat eye and some dark liner and add a nude lipstick. I choose dark nude to make me look like a bitch with an angelic face. I smirk when I feel the satisfaction with my appearance. I shake my head as I stare at my reflection. "I think I'm a two face bitch." Margaret look nerdy while Chandra can compete when it comes to a cat fights.

“Yeah, I’ve heard her keeping you upright. At high decibel and all damn night long.” My wide grin just gets wider watching Darby wander her way across the grass to me. Though she’s not wearing much of it, it’s the first time I’ve seen her with make-up and the impact is dramatic. Her plump perfect lips are a deeper shade than her usual pink and the soft gloss over them makes her look like she’s been well and truly kissed. Smokey purple and shimmery gold eye makeup makes her wide, tip-tilted eyes even larger and their color stand out, and black mascara turns her long, thick lashes impossibly longer and thicker.

Her boots were black leather that rose just below her knees and had small silver buckles on the side. Her makeup was dark but still soft enough for a wedding. A deep plum shade on her lips and dark eyeliner that made her purple streaks stand out even more. Her hair was in a loose bun and a bit messy on purpose with the purple streaks falling through like she didn’t even try. She looked like a rockstar at a wedding and somehow it was perfect. Only May could put such a look together and carry it properly.

“I don’t want to look like a frizz ball!” “No, you won’t, I promise! I am going to put it up. It will look beautiful!” Anne responded. She was pulling my hair in a cute low bun with tendrils of hair falling along my face. Lizzie flittered between different makeup palettes in an effort to find the perfect colors to compliment my skin, hair, and outfit. Lizzie, Anne, and I talked and laughed as they helped me get ready. Lizzie chose mauves, golds, and sparkly pink colors. It was a smoky eye but was soft. It was a beautiful combination of colors.
