After the main event, people will come up to say hello, and you need to know who’s who.” He pointed to the paper. “The ones in the red box are dignitaries in the mafia. Steer clear of them.” I nodded and tucked the paper into my purse. Our food arrived, but Adrian didn’t touch his. “Are you not eating?” I asked.

“I’m enjoying watching you pretend to be a normal groom.” He raised one eyebrow. “I am a normal groom.” I pointed toward the security plan. “Normal grooms don’t deploy eighty guards.” He shrugged. “I’m not normal.” “That part is obvious.” For a moment the room went quiet. Then Luca looked at the planners again. “Continue.” The woman with the bun hesitated. “Well… we still need to discuss the seating arrangement.” I groaned. “Oh no.” She flipped open another chart. “The guest list currently includes two hundred and sixty people.”

“I literally just got here.” “I know. That’s why you need to listen now before the day eats us alive.” Behind her, Stacy spun her chair around, hair bouncing. “Tell her, Elena. She’s going to implode.” Elena inhaled. “The guest list has been released.” I frowned. “For what?” They stared at me like I’d asked what oxygen was. “The gala!” they said in unison. Dana nudged me with her elbow. "Told you. You’re trending." The event was more elegant than I expected. Polished white floors, linen-covered tables, soft jazz playing in the background. Waiters moved around offering champagne and tiny hors d'oeuvres on silver trays. "Miss Evans?" a voice called out. I turned to see a tall woman approaching. Late thirties, perfect posture, red lips. "I’m Gabrielle Keene. I handle guest relations for the Circle. It’s such a pleasure to finally meet you."

“But everything is obviously odd, right?” “It is. Something is not right. I don’t like the aura. I don’t like this at all.” Gia responded with all honesty. “I know. Where are even the musicians who are supposed to be taking down the show? I do not see any face that resonates with that of a musician. There should be people on your level, Gia. This is so fishy.” Martin remarked. “Talking of that, there was no list of guest artists in the invitation. I should have sensed something odd because they normally list the names of the invited guests. It was only my name on the address list.” Gia explained with renewed worry.

He handed the notebook to Claire as he began to eat the leftover dishes on the table. Claire opened the book and read through the wishlist from her mother, as well as the guest list she wanted to invite, which turned out to be quite extensive. Antony, sitting beside her, glanced at it and nodded. He even smiled when he saw a note on the last page of the guest list, written in all capital letters: "Buy nice and expensive souvenirs; don't make me look bad."
