We didn't let the darkness win. END OF VOLUME ONE

I looked down at a profile, verified, hundreds of thousands of followers, and at the top of it, in bold beneath a photo I recognized instantly: Rowan Archer. Grand Prix driver. Second in the championship standings. There were articles about his race results, sponsorship deals, and one from three days ago asking who the mystery woman was that he’d recently been seen with. I stared at the screen, my phone still in my hand, as everything from lunch came rushing back. It all clicked into place at once. A puzzle I hadn’t even realized I was putting together until suddenly, somehow, I had the whole picture. "Lav?" Jennifer's voice sounded very far away. "Say something."

"I hope I'm getting a passing grade." The tiny light before him shimmered brightly. Astera chuckled softly. "It seems your courage outweighs your fear." Victor looked genuinely surprised. "I was aiming for survival." Even Damien allowed himself a small smile. The warmth lasted only a moment. Then the largest light drifted toward Zevarion. Another floated to Elyra. The two lights circled them before merging into one brilliant star. The entire chamber illuminated. The city's voice echoed once again. "Dual Guardians confirmed." "Final Authority granted."

She shoved a cane into my hands and said, “You can get upstairs by yourself, can’t you? What a nuisance.” I nodded. Using the cane to guide myself, I stepped onto the tactile guiding tiles on the floor, feeling the raised bumps beneath my feet. For a moment, I lost myself in the sensation. Shawn had installed these bumps himself when we first arrived at the Mercer estate. He had done it just to make things easier for me, his blind little sister. However, just as I was about to walk into my room, a set of hurried, angry footsteps approached from behind. “Hold it right there!”

Sicca was doing everything he could to calm my nerves, but they were stubborn, refusing to bend. “Ready for a little magic?” His ice-blue eyes sparkled at me, playful and teasing. I nodded at him, then turned my gaze forward. He produced a small object from his pocket, almost like a miniature hockey puck. It was a vivid green. With a flick of his wrist, he sent it skimming across the gravel. As it landed, a green light shimmered upward from it. Sicca placed a steadying hand on my waist, guiding me toward the glowing patch. It shaped itself into an oval, like a massive mirror one could walk through.

A soft glow began to emanate from my skin, growing brighter with each word. “If it's within your power if it's part of your plan… Please guide Asher to his true mate. Let him know the joy of a love that's meant to be.” The light got so bright that I could see it with my eyes closed and everything! It was like, for a quick second, I was just chilling' in a giant pool of stars that were winking at me or something. But then, just like that, it was over and the weird space-floaty feeling disappeared.

Vandaulf regarded her, then reached for her hand, his fingers closing around it gently. "No more hiding, Lily." She tightened her grip on his hand. As they approached the glowing light, Sarah and Alex felt a sense of warmth wash over them, banishing the cold grip of the darkness that surrounded them.
