​I turn and run. ​I run as fast as I can, pushing my legs to take me faster than they had that night, begging them to take me away from this pain again. Sassy ran at my side, struggling to keep up with me as I ran blindly. Only a few lights were to be found in the distance, but nothing more than a speck from where I was, not nearly enough to lead me. But I had no other choice but to run, nothing I could do but escape.

What am I going to do? There’s a light in the distance. I’m scared that this could lead me to more danger, but I don’t have any other choice if I want to live. I stumble to my feet and walk closer to the light as snow starts to fall. I speed up and relief floods through my body as I see a cottage that I recognize.

Each step felt heavier than the last, the weight of my fear dragging me down. In the distance, I saw a flicker of light, a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. I didn't know what it was, but I ran towards it with every ounce of strength I had left. The creature let out a screech, a sound that pierced my very soul, and I knew it was close. Closer than ever. The beast was gaining on me. I reached the old fountain in the centre of the courtyard. There was nowhere else to go. I turned around. The creature was only a few steps away. It opened its mouth. I closed my eyes. Then a bright silver light burst from my collarbone. It spread across the courtyard like moonlight.

As the door creaked open and a dazzling expanse of light emerged, a gentle hum filled the air. Iris took a hesitant step forward, shielding her eyes. For a moment, she felt a connection—a link tugging at her soul—as the light surrounded her. "Aiden," she said, his presence subtle but evident. Her heart tightened. The danger was as close as he was. My paws hit the forest floor, claws digging into earth as I sprinted into the darkness. My Guardians raced after me, a thundering pack unified by loyalty and alarm. Branches whipped past in a blur. She sprang into motion, her feet barely touching the ground as she sprinted into the underbrush. Lucas followed, his heart pounding in his chest, adrenaline surging through his veins.
