The Night Before I Knew Him
Tobias crosses his arms, tilting his head, that calm confidence of his showing.
I nod quickly, forcing a sheepish smile. "Yes. Really."
A long beat of silence passes between us, the wind carrying the faint city hum below. Then he asks, voice playful again, "What’s in it for me?"
Relief floods through me — he believes me. Or maybe he’s just going along for fun. Either way, I’ll take it.
I raise my hand again, palm open, my heart pounding. "Come on. Shake on it."
Tobias studies me for a moment, then rubs his chin thoughtfully. Finally, a grin spreads across his face. "Deal."
