People began murmuring, their whispers threading through the air like invisible tendrils. "Is that Gwen Summerbell?" "She looks even more stunning than before." "Didn't she disappear after her father took her to London?" I ignored them, keeping my head high. Then, amidst the sea of unfamiliar faces, a familiar one emerged. "Gwen!" Jersey, the birthday girl herself, rushed toward me, her arms outstretched. She was as radiant as ever in a stunning deep-red gown, her dark curls styled to perfection. I smiled as she pulled me into a warm embrace.

Saturday dragged on at a snail's pace, and Gwen felt a nervous energy rise within her. She didn't know why this meeting seemed so important to her; perhaps because it had been planned rather than spontaneous. After a shower, she dressed carefully for dinner, slipping into the black lace dress that hugged her curves. She adjusted the sleeves that fell over her shoulders so that the top of the dress hugged the bodice, slipped on her Louboutins and admired herself in front of the mirror. Once again, she decided to wear her hair down and arranged it seductively around her shoulders and back.

Stacy turns around and greets Celia happily. Celia gives her back a smile. Although they all noticed that Raven is behind her, they did not pay her any notice. “Oh Celia, you look so beautiful,” Stacy’s friend compliments her. Of course she is pretty, Celia is the prettiest in this pack. Even Stacy looked nothing compared to her even though she came here with her pink dress and her brown hair with strawberry blond highlights. “Stacy, I love your new hair,” Celia compliments her. Stacy smiles and touches her hair. “Thank you. I also love your dress too,” she tells her with a fake smile.

The distance to the ground ain't bad to jump. "That isn't necessary if you sit down." She protested about the idea of using the window."I'll fix you up." "How will you do that?" I asked. Gwen pulls a chair and tells me to sit on it. I do as she says. She plugs in her blow dryer and blows dries my hair. Then she picks one of her combs and grooms my hair nicely. "Now you can use the door and when she sees you just tell her you found your way in when she was in her room."

"Hi," The girl giggled. "Oh, I'm sorry, I just got excited, it's rare to find natural red hair nowadays, I've always wanted red hair, black is so outdated and boring. I can dye it but it doesn't feel natural," She ranted, a spark in her innocent forest green eyes. As if realizing her mistake, she gasped. "Oh Goddess, I'm so sorry. We just met and I'm already killing you with my rant. Anyway, I'm Jacqueline, you can just call me Jackie," she held out her hand for a handshake which Gwen hesitantly accepted. "I'm Gwen," she uttered and Jackie's eyes brightened.

I ended the call with Mike thinking about how I didn’t really want to get him jealous. I wanted communication. Was that too much to ask? Classes went on, days flew by, and it was finally weekend. I woke, feeling my scalp scratchy, and I quickly got changed and finally showed up for my hair appointment after weeks… no months of missing it. “Hi, Gwen.” I greeted as I walked into the salon. The two of them were speaking quietly about something, Gwen gesturing lightly while Mia laughed at whatever she'd said. Gwen looked unrecognizable. No. She looked recognizable. That was the problem. Her hair pulled back into an elegant, effortless bun. Subtle makeup, but flawless. Pearl earrings that probably cost a kidney. None of that "simple girl" façade she wore at the estate. None of the casual clothes and easy smiles.

I wanted to rip the clothes from her body and make love to her there, but I kept it in. "You look amazing, Gwen," I said, and she smiled. She had dyed her blonde hair closer to brown that morning as she said she would, and she looked amazing. I had sent for a Kappa from the Eclipse pack to drive us to the venue. Gwen’s POV Three years later. I stared at the woman in the mirror. Her eyes were darker now. Not in color, but in weight. Her brunette hair, once soft waves down her back, was now cut blunt just above the shoulders. Clean. Sharp. Easy to manage. Easier to hide behind. I tugged my black glove a little tighter, flexing my fingers. The leather creaked faintly. Long coat. Black tank top. Black pants. Black boots. I looked like a shadow.
