Half Price Books Summer Reading Novels & Stories

Patricia Bennett chimed in, drying her hands on her apron as she emerged from the kitchen. "I'll pick one up for you tomorrow then, Patricia," I said, flashing her a genuine grin. "Oh, don't go to the trouble, Collins. I can send one of the junior pups to the shop," she demurred. "Honestly, it’s no trouble at all. It wasn't exactly a blow to the budget. The campus bookstore had a clearance bin, so I snagged it for about a credit and a half."

"This is mine? To keep?" "If your mom says it's okay." Carter looked at me, asking permission. "I checked them out from the library. But if August likes them we can get our own copies." "Our own?" August caught that. "Like you'd have one and I'd have one?" "Or we could share one. Either way works." Carter pulled out more books. Five total. All chosen specifically for August's interests, all the right level of complex, all exactly what August would love. "I thought maybe we could read them together. Take turns with the chapters."

(Bakersville Elementary, 1999) *** “It’s reading time!” Miss Phoebe said, and all the kids groaned in disapproval. All of them except Emily and Gabriel. This was their favorite time of the week. They got to sit quietly for one hour and read as many books as they liked.

He’d hoped they’d already seen the last of the Fair. Immediately, Sarah’s eyes flicked back to the newspaper. Reading the article quickly, the words whispered aloud as if it would speed the process, she located the schedule. “It says that tickets are half-price for anyone in a costume and the pavilions will be giving out free prizes and goodies for trick-or-treaters. It doesn’t start until six o’clock. That’s after school.” “We could have dinner there and trick-or-treat after. All on the last day of the Fair,” Peter added. “Pleeeeasse!”

"The publisher wants spring but I want summer. We're negotiating." "What's the argument for summer?" Selene asked. Elian looked up. "Summer is when people are willing to be changed by what they read," he said. "Spring is when they're cautious. Expectant. Summer they've given themselves over." He paused. "Also the light in summer is better for book covers and I have opinions about the light." Selene looked at him. "You're very specific about things that aren't writing," she said. "Everything is writing eventually," Elian said. "The specificity is research."

He is now in his sixties, but is still rocking strong. This place always made me feel like I was living in the 1980's era and it felt so good. Old things fascinate me. I also love it here because books are free to use. Most of them are novels and poetry that is why I love it even more. You only have to pay five dollars every three months if you are a regular visitor. Dale is also good at remembering events and faces of people so he knows who are the people that need to pay. I grabbed a book from the shelf next to me. It was a poetry book and I started reading it.
