So I pulled out my phone again, this time scrolling through my saved folder labeled “EMERGENCY GIGGLES.” I found a meme I knew would work. A sketchy cartoon cat trying to play a grand piano with arms that were way too short. It was dumb. Like, impressively dumb. “Look at this,” I said, turning the screen toward him. He glanced at it. Blinked. Then let out a snort. “That’s so stupid,” he said. “But you smiled.” “No, I didn’t.” “You totally did.” He rolled his eyes, took a long sip of juice, then bumped his shoulder into mine. “Okay. Maybe I did.”

I moan. "I'm not halfway in." "What? No way."

Tara walked beside her down the hallway, clutching two coffees and grinning like a gossip columnist. “They’re calling you The Muse of Cross. That’s either a curse or a compliment. Haven’t decided yet.” Lena groaned. “I want to disappear.” “Too late. You’re trending on the student board.” Tara showed her phone. Sure enough, someone had made a meme of Damien staring at a blank canvas with the caption: Thinking about Lena (probably). Lena buried her face in her hands. “I hate everything.” Tara sipped her coffee. “Honestly? It’s kind of iconic.”

October 23, 2019 Baguio City, Philippines Oblivious, Thera brought her right hand across her left chest. She was almost there. There were still a lot of memories that were trying to break free from her mind but it felt like her brain will explode if she would force herself to remember.
