My head felt too full of scents, voices, and memories that refused to stay where I’d buried them.
I turned back to the vanity, hoping to distract myself, and opened another drawer. Inside was a chaos of trinkets, ribbons, and jewelry I’d forgotten I even owned. And right there, nestled between a tangled chain and an old lip gloss, was a friendship bracelet.
I blinked. It was still beautiful,it had woven threads of cream and gold and delicate little beads that shimmered faintly under the light. For a second, I just stared at it, unsure if I wanted to touch it. Then, with a quiet sigh, I slipped it onto my wrist.
