Once Upon a Marriage
His eyes were bright with shy pride as he crossed the room, holding it out to me.
“Here,” he said softly.
I looked down to see a tiny friendship bracelet made of braided red, yellow, and blue yarn, the ends knotted neatly, though a little uneven.
My throat closed up as I took it from him, feeling the rough softness of the yarn against my fingertips. Tears instantly welled up, blurring the bracelet.
“I made it for you last night when you were sleeping,” he whispered. “So you can be brave today.”
I couldn’t speak. The tears spilled down my cheeks as I bent down, gathering him in my arms, pressing his small warm body against mine.
