Flecks of it rained down on my exposed skin, and the pain hit hard.
It was like molten metal pouring into my flesh. My arm throbbed, and every instinct screamed at me to stop—to retreat, to get away—but I couldn’t. Not now.
I couldn’t waste a second.
I lunged for the knife as it hit the ground, sliding through the snow and grabbing it. In one swift motion, I drove it into the side of his neck.
