Chapter 25 Sunless Sea The harbor of Oakhaven had become a place of myth and nightmare. The water was no longer a liquid; it was a thick, viscous ink that seemed to swallow the light of the stars. The mist had coalesced into a single, massive vortex at the center of the bay, a swirling wall of white that reached into the clouds. At the heart of the vortex lay the Sunless Sea a rift between the physical world and the Hollow, a place where time and space were governed by the hunger of the shadows.

They reached the Holkar sea which was known to be the largest to sail through. Sometimes men go missing because of the treacherous sea beasts and blowing-amulet sirens. They were all prepared for this sea which would take a week to cross. Holkar was the fifth and most dangerous sea among the seven seas before South. Finlay ensured Ophelia didn't leave the room. Talking to that mermaid was a young boy that looked exactly like me. He looks handsome like me.

Suddenly, the ocean split. A massive wave, three hundred feet high, rose from the bay. But it wasn't made of water. It was made of Sapphire Ghosts—the spirits of every wolf who had ever been lost at sea, or executed by the Southern Alphas and thrown into the deep. They were a screaming, translucent wall of agony, and in the center of the wave, standing on the head of a gargantuan sea-serpent, was Selene. She looked different now. Her blue skin was translucent, her veins glowing with a sickly violet light. She held her Bone-Scepter high, and the sapphire crystal was pulsing in time with the ocean's heartbeat.

The Oakhaven docks were a graveyard of rusted cranes and skeletal ships, haunted by the constant, rhythmic mourning of the foghorns. The air here was thick with the scent of brine and something sharper—the metallic tang of Valerii magic. Dante killed the headlights a mile away. We moved through the shadows like a pair of ghosts.
