Men scrambled into position, shields braced, wolves pressing against the gates with low growls that vibrated through the floor. But none of them were looking at the enemy. They were all looking at the sea. And for once, they were right to be afraid. The horizon was gone swallowed by a wall of crimson water, taller than the highest cliff, its surface twisting like something trying to crawl out of itself. Not a wave. A presence. A mind. “Steady!” I shouted, though the word felt pointless against something this large. James slid beside me, breath sharp. “That isn’t natural.”

"Gosh, why isn't it healed yet? It looks so terrifying. Hayden is timid. Ms. Jordan, please keep Anna away from here. Don't scare him." Anna trembled all over, with tears welling up in her eyes. Suddenly, she rushed forward and tried to push Hayden. "This is my daddy! You go away! This is my daddy!" Hayden was pushed slightly, but Anna did not apply much force. However, he slumped to the ground and screamed, "Ah! Someone attacked me! The ugly clown attacked me! Daddy, help! My leg is broken!" Arlo's expression changed. He rushed over in a few steps and pushed Anna away. He pushed Anna so hard that she fell to the ground. Her knees hit the cement and immediately started bleeding.

My sharp gaze swept over every one of them. Adam's face drained of color, and panic flashed in his eyes. Zoe's smile froze, and the phone in her hand slipped, hitting the floor with a loud clang. Anna instinctively staggered backward. The other coworkers lowered their heads, too guilty to meet my eyes. "What does she mean? Was this accident a setup?" "That's terrifying. Is this some kind of horror workplace story?" The murmurs around us grew louder. The police sensed something was wrong and turned to me with grave expressions. "Miss, what do you mean by that? Please explain yourself clearly."

Just then, he felt it, his brother’s aura. It was faint, but it was there in the dark sand, the kind that only existed in the deepest trenches, and it floated in the water like recently disturbed smoke. Bursting outward in a ring of force as he followed the trail, the currents obeyed again. From every corner of the sea, other things came: deep-sea creatures loyal to the ocean's heir. Shadows passed behind him. Enormous shapes swam alongside him, but Kairos’s eyes were locked ahead. And then he saw them.

My soul drifted up from a cage at the bottom of the ocean, somehow ending up near Isaac Thornton. Liam Donovan, his assistant, told Isaac, "Mr. Thornton, Mrs. Thornton's been in the ocean for a day and a night. The water's freezing; she might not make it." Isaac replied, "She's only been in the ocean for a day and a night, but my Mandy's gone forever." Liam tried again, "But the dead can't be brought back. If something happens to Mrs. Thornton..." Isaac threw a stack of papers at him.

'The Battle That Never Ended' was the title. The signs of the Sea Goddess’s wrath were unmistakable. Wherever their powers touched, decay followed. Green forests shriveled into lifeless husks. Rivers and lakes swelled unnaturally, fish washing up on the shores without signs of rot.
