Things that should not affect me, but unfortunately, Adeline had always been dangerous without even trying. She wasn’t dancing for attention or for anyone’s impression. The happiness on her face was genuine and everything looked effortless. Why was it suddenly hot in here? The air conditioner was running and the employees looked perfectly fine. However, at that moment, Adeline stopped in front of a huge red oak door with a crown in the center. “This is it. The master is waiting for you,” she said, turning to me. Hearing that, my whole body began to tremble with fear. It was my time to face the most dangerous lycan in the world, and I didn't even know how to use my power.

And strangely, I didn’t feel any attraction towards her. I wasn’t sure if it had faded over time since it was a stupid infatuation or if was it replaced by someone more…important? I walked out of the manor and found the ‘more important.’ Adeline stood before the birds with a bowl of grain in her hand, and she fed them. The birds seemed to be flocking around her as if she was snow white. Her lips moved as she looked at one of them. Was she talking to them? I moved closer to listen in.

Adeline’s pov I tried not to cry again. This was something my tear ducts were used to, it was almost a routine to watch it dry up and so I sucked in the tears and thought happy thoughts. Thoughts that comprised of the good old earlier days. Looking back to the sequence of events which brought me to that house of brooding mystery, of sinister undercurrents and disturbing echoes. I sat on a wooden bench I had found as I became lost in thought all alone in the darkness.

I ran my finger across her lower lip and she bit it lightly, setting my body on fire. I took her mouth intensely, devouring it with my hungry tongue. I ran my hand over her abdomen, feeling the volume of her belly that carried my son. I looked back at her and she smiled. His hand took mine, leading it back to the place of his belly. The three of them eat some more cake and pack the rest of it back for the others to enjoy. Since yesterday, Adeline had been feeling quite anxious and nervous. When she had been cursed to desiccate, she had known that it would be some time before she woke up again. But she had never imagined that it would be almost a hundred years. The world she has woken up in is so drastically different from what she had left behind. She was happy to have her elder sister by her side. They had talked very late into the night and she had filled her in on a lot of things that had happened and changed since 1924.

Lillie Damon stared out the window of her cabin. The lightning in the midnight sky illuminated the forest on Slaughter Hill. Wind hissed through the forests.
