“Adeline, come on!” Warm liquid seeps through Adeline’s clothes, and into the ground. I make quick work to press my hands as firmly as I can to the two holes in her body. The crimson liquid coats my arms in a matter of seconds, as the life drains out of her. “No, no, no. Please, say something Adie.” But Adeline stays still no matter how much I shake her. My vision blurs as my tears overflow, falling to Adeline’s cheeks, and that’s when I finally notice her eyes… lifeless and dull.

The comforting gesture transported Adeline to a cherished memory of her mother’s golden hair gleaming in the sunlight, her radiant smile as she ran her fingers through Adeline’s hair while they sat on the swing in their backyard in London. The three of them eat some more cake and pack the rest of it back for the others to enjoy. Since yesterday, Adeline had been feeling quite anxious and nervous. When she had been cursed to desiccate, she had known that it would be some time before she woke up again. But she had never imagined that it would be almost a hundred years. She looked up at me, her tongue darting out to lick her lips, her eyes searching for a flicker of the old fire. "She doesn't even know how to please you," Adeline hissed, her voice sharp with venom. "She’s a cold, little bird. I’m a fire. Let me burn for you." She leaned forward, her mouth opening to take me through the fabric of my trousers, her hands reaching up to shove her breasts into my face, desperate for any contact, any sign that she still held power over me.

It wasn’t confirmed yet, but in our world, it wasn’t impossible either, especially when that man made a deal with the devil or was the devil himself. We ended the day. Hendrix and Hunt went back to their work while we drove back to the pack house after we made sure that Milka was fully recovered. She was supposed to go home, but she insisted on coming with me. Silent tears flowed out as I dipped lower in the mattress. My headache had finally resided by the time I woke up. The curtains were drawn on the window and it was already dark outside. I stared out at the moonless night beyond as my heard wrapped around the reality. Sighing inaudibly, I turned around and saw Adeline hunched over her study table, her nose poking into a book. She was really engrossed into whatever she was reading. Getting off the bed, I tiptoed toward her. As my shadow fell over her book, she turned around, "Oh, hi, you are finally up." Putting the bookmark inside the page, she continued, "How is your headache?"

He left after a minute, and Gianna looked at the door, but no one in sight. After a few more moments of quietly searching the room for anything else of value or importance, Adeline decided that they headed to the second floor of the mansion. Upon reaching the second floor, Adeline pushed open the door to her old room. The room was exactly as she had left it. Even her bed, which she had made, was still perfect. The lantern beside her bed was still lit, as if it had been waiting for her all this time.
