"It's waking up." The Keeper's words echoed across existence, heavy and final. And for the first time since the war began, nobody knew what to say. Not Aurora, not Luca, not the Architect, and not even the End. The Keeper was older than all of them. Older than the First Hunger, older than the Source, and older than the Dream itself. If something frightened the Keeper, then existence had a problem it was never designed to solve.

I nodded once I was sure I had said it right. They all murmured in agreement and understanding before another spoke. “As is the life of a Dragon Rider. Do you know it?” “Before Keepers are released on the world, they must be hexed so that you can recapture them after they are done doing what they were released to do. Was yours hexed?” I shook my head. “Ours did not mean to let it go.”

But the strangeness of this hour as he stepped across the platform helped clear his mind. Something caught his attention as he moved past the waiting area. It was a vomit-colored jacket that jumped at him - he would recognize that jacket anywhere in the world. The wearer of the jacket was a huddled figure slumped by the side wall of the long, stubby building hosting the ticket counters.

He took my hand again and smiled sadly. “I am here now, and it was wonderful to speak with Apache again, and I am very excited to be welcomed into your pack. Although, I would like to meet the warriors that went looking for me as well. I’m sure I would remember the ones I tormented as a child.” Grinning I turned to my food and took another bite of my burger. “Well, most of them have retired and moved away with their mates. There are two left that stayed. Do you remember Garrett and Kyle?” I almost jumped out of my seat at the mention of Kyle.
