It made her heart ache. She brushed a strand of hair from his forehead, her fingers lingering just a moment too long. “Maybe,” she whispered to herself, “this is what healing looks like. Not forgetting. Not pretending. Just… being here.” The room was warm, filled with the quiet rhythm of his breathing and the faint chirp of crickets outside the window. Her heart still carried scars, and she knew it would for a long time. She couldn’t erase the past, couldn’t rewrite everything they had lost. But she didn’t want to anymore.

My soul was afloat when my breathing stopped. I watched as the doctor cut my chest open and took out my heart. He hurried out of the operating room with it. I followed without thinking and saw my brother pacing anxiously in the hallway. "Was the heart taken out? Arrange the surgery for Yvette Sinclair immediately. This transplant must succeed. Failure is not allowed!" my brother ordered. My brother, Joseph Sinclair, had the authority as the Mafia Boss, so the doctors nodded in fear.

That was why they came after me and everything I loved. Fuck Richard. “I worked for this,” I continued. “I bled for this.” My fingers clenched slightly on the fork. “I suffered for every single step.” Grace watched me carefully but didn’t interrupt. “And after all that… the heavens decide to bless me with an incurable sickness.” I laughed again, but the sound had no humor in it. “And guess what?” “What, Boss?” She asked softly. “The only person who can heal me…” I leaned forward slightly. “…is my fucking wife.”

A nurse mixed up the reports and told them that she was suffering from kidney failure. Matthew's eyes welled with tears. He clutched the doctor's coat and shouted, "Give her my kidney! Take both if you have to! If I lose her, I don't want to live anymore!" Once they realized it was a mistake, the man who ruled the boardroom with a cold heart crouched in the hospital hallway, sobbing like a child. "Thank God, Danielle. I'm so glad you're okay." People around her often warned that as Matthew's empire grew, he would inevitably attract countless admirers. Yet he treated her so well that she couldn't muster even a trace of suspicion.

"I am an heiress from the wealthiest family in the world. Why would I want to mingle with someone as lowly as you, who came from a puny little family? Who did you think you were?" Then, I continued mocking him. "Still, I'll admit that I'd made a huge mistake in the past. I'd fallen in love with a selfish, greedy bastard in the past. However, he taught me how to pick myself up and find my will to live again. He made me realize that love is nothing but a useless concept for delusional people." Oscar's egoistic face fell when he saw how cold I was with him. Still, he didn't want to give up and tightly held onto my hand. "Aurora, the person I love is you. Don't be so heartless.

"How dare you say I cheated on you!" Rosie exclaimed. "Haven't you still come to your senses till now?" Archie chuckled, his expression incredulous. "Come back to my senses?" He repeated. "Did you just say I should come back to my senses?" His voice cracked. "How can I come back to my senses after the very first woman I ever loved betrayed me? How can I heal after what you did to me?" Rosie's expression remained unconcerned.

She pulled back instantly, worry flashing across her face. “See?” she scolded softly. “You’re not ready.” I caught her hand before she could retreat, pressing it to my chest. “Maybe not for war. But for you? Always.” Her eyes softened, though she tried to hide it. She lay back down beside me, careful of my wounds, resting her head against me once more. And in that moment, as the night deepened around us, I knew healing wasn’t only for the body. It was for the heart too. And with her, maybe mine still had a chance.

At the bottom of the canyon, she could see the stream that had carved its way through the stone. Water and time, she thought. That’s what heals everything. Back home, Emma began outlining chapters for the next book. Not a novel this time. A memoir, maybe. Or something hybrid part essay, part story, part guide to living after burning. She didn’t need to rush it. The words would come when they were ready. That night, she opened her journal and wrote: “Healing does not erase the scar. It teaches you to honor it.” She stared at the sentence. Then she wrote another:

Elle read the note and walked out to get Finn two hospital gowns and when she returned she tried to help him but he just shook his head and pointed to Lili. Lili whispered in his ear when they were alone, "You know Elle has the hearts for you, right." He just groaned as she helped him dress and she let her hands linger for a second or two as her eyes took in his broken body. How she wished that this was just a fairytale and she could magically heal Finn. She could not let her frustration show! But Finn took his first steps, she was right there by his side. She knew he was pushing himself, which it was good for him mentally and physically.
