Heat Wave Novels & Stories

Well, maybe I shall heal in time. A heavy sigh escapes my lungs, marveling the long night awaits. I know I won't easily get asleep right now, I usually don't, and it's only two a.m. Damn my life! I take a deep yawn while grabbing the bottle of water from the nightstand and gulp a bit. "Ah, that's better," I breathe, my throat refreshed. Fully aware of the resentment I have towards sweating, the summer has decided to grant me a vengeful visit. I quickly get up and turn on the fan, which allows my body to cool off gradually. The L.A heat is no joke this year.

bend over to pick something up, wearing the tiniest bikinis I own. I don’t push too hard. I let the tension build, teasing him with glimpses—a flash of side-boob when I adjust my top, a slow application of sunscreen on my thighs while lying on my stomach, knowing he’s watching. The air between our houses feels charged, like the moments before a thunderstorm. By the end of the week, the heat wave peaks—record temperatures, the kind where the pool water feels like bathwater even at night. My parents announce they’re heading to the cabin up north for the weekend, leaving Friday morning.

I croaked, my head spinning. No one, not even Jaime or Yvette, had ever told me what heat felt like. I had read about the wolf heat, of course. It was taught in our schools, too. It was a way to make sure they would have children and speed up the mating process. It always happened at different times, sometimes a month or two months after being marked, and it only happened once a year on average. Now, my body felt like I was bathing in fire. My skin seemed to be being pricked with an intense heat that seemed to consume me from within.

Drawing up alongside Evelyn, Lily summoned the executive lift. Only as July rolled in did New Yorkers come to realize Nature had more deadly designs. Among the driest on record and with scarcely an inch of rainfall the entire month but with a consistent humidity near forty percent, the blistering ninety degree temperatures quickly became triple digit heat indices near noon, lasting for hours at a time. To combat the heat, both she and Lily had taken to pinning their wet hair up on the top of their heads and leaving it—Evelyn’s drying into the enviable cascading waves like Hedy Lamarr and Lily’s curling into golden looping ringlets so that Justin had taken to calling her Shirley Temple, much

She laughed and said, “You just had to act smart, didn’t you? You always had to be better at everything since we were kids. “Well, with you gone, I can finally be the best! So, in a way, your death is… useful.” She was the one who was dead. The only pity was that compared to my death in the past, her death was clearly far more merciful. … The heatwave ultimately lasted for two full months. For those two months, the news was just a daily tally of the dead and the latest record temperature. The official death toll climbed into tens of thousands. But I knew that number was probably a lowball estimate for the public’s sake.

~GWEN~ I had never been more angry with something as little at the weather as I had been on the present day. The heat wave in the city was ridiculous. It was hot enough to fry an egg. What made it even more annoying was the fact that the previous night had been cold and windy. Anyone would have expected a torrid rainfall or something the next morning. But, no. Quinn had I had woke up in a bed drenched with sweat. A swift shower followed, but that did squat. We were both sweaty as soon as we dried off and dressed up. A trip to the grocery followed for me. And to my little surprise, even the inside of the grocery felt hot. I had to buy everything I needed and qu

I had no other choice, I had hoped that it wouldn’t come to this. The wolves couldn’t enter the circle and they were hurting themselves trying to get in. I focused all my strength, all my power into one final spell. “Brenna bikkja.” I screamed with everything in me as the blue flames erupted from my hands and enveloped me with such a fury that Sabine started burning both on the inside and the outside. She screamed with such ferocity that the two other witches stepped out of the circle as they tried to get away from the flames.

“Let me.” A battle waged inside her, but she nodded, allowing him to continue. The cloth dragged over her bare skin, sending heat coursing through her veins. His touch lingered, his fingers grazing over places they shouldn’t. It wasn’t just care…. it was possession. And she hated how much she liked it. When he reached her thighs, she bit her lip, trying to suppress the heat pooling in her stomach. “Victor,” she warned. He looked up at her then, his eyes heavy with something dark and consuming. “Tell me to stop.”

What else could the sudden disappearance of her stupid heat wave mean? "I don't think so," Ezekiel said, helping her back to the ground when she started wriggling to be let go. "It doesn't work like that. A heat lasts for at least three days." "And you read that in what? 'The Anomalies of Hybrid Wolves'?" Noelle rolled her eyes. She looked down at her clothing - she was still walking around in a towel.

Someone could have raped me. “The healers think a week or so, if not sooner. Don’t worry, we are evacuating the packhouse just in case.” I nod my head. Nothing is making any sense right now. Heat is meant to be painful, even more so if you mate to a wolf who isn’t your mate. I have heard of she-wolves who have died from the heat. I don’t want to die. I shudder. Going into heat is something I don’t want to do. I know it’s inevitable, but I’m not ready for it to happen just yet.
