Rachel and Davie left the packhouse, knowing now that their beliefs were correct. Hector was, in fact, a patsy for someone else. Someone he feared to name or couldn’t name. He was too far gone to give the person’s description, even if he knew what they looked like. It was frustrating, to say the least, for the investigators. They’d received word that they must locate this person as soon as possible. The only thing Rachel could think of was to lay another trap for them.

“I . . . became one of them to survive. My family . . . they refused. And now they’re gone.” I didn’t mean to reveal so much to the hatter. The story simply spooled out of me like a ball of yarn. Hector asked, and then we both took our shots. "Is that her real name or?" Hector cut me off before I could finish. "It doesn't matter; don't touch her do you understand," Hector said and requested another round of shots. Hector tried to put fear in me, but the more he told me to stay away from the woman, the more I wanted her. Hector is a six-foot four-inch bull of a man, though, so I thought I would heed what he said. "Ok, stay away from Raven," I said, and at that time, Wade and Connor had arrived.
