There was a brief pause as students brushed past them toward their classrooms. Then Amaka’s expression shifted. “Oh! That reminds me,” she said, lowering her voice. “Yesterday was Tuesday.” Hazel blinked. “Yeah?” “You usually come home with me on Tuesdays, remember.” Hazel frowned. “I know. Don’t remind me.” “You would have seen something.” Hazel tilted her head. “Seen what?” Amaka glanced around as if making sure no one was listening, then leaned closer. “That neighbor of mine. The weird one.” Hazel straightened slightly.

We talk for a while as they eat their cereal and drink their coffee before we are joined by Den and Nadine. "Mornin'." Denver greets and Nadine just waves clutching her head in her hand. "Hungover?" I ask stifling a smile only to receive the middle finger as a reply. Everybody laughs and Mara makes her some weird remedy. I dismiss myself and walk into my room before making the bed and laying down in it. I grab my phone and see that I have a message. I open it and it's from my mom. *I have yet to see that house missy.*

We both said at the same time "Don't tell me you live here too" I creased my eyebrows and looked at the person with an oddly familiar voice. My mood fell. I just started my day and it's already like this? "Really out of all the people in the world why do you have to be my neighbour?" "Hello neighbour the name is Jaxon"

The person standing in front of Leona was not a group of people who had just sent wedding chocolates, but a middle-aged man who had just asked for an address. "Ah, sorry, am I interrupting?" The neighbor said with an unnatural look on his face, "I'm really sorry! I just moved here and there are still some things that aren't clear, so I wanted to ask for some information." Leona even felt a little embarrassed. Just then Rose came out of the room, "Leona, who's here?" Leona was relieved to hear her mother's voice and turned to her mother and replied, "Mom, it's a neighbor! The neighbor who just arrived this morning!"

"Come on, Jo. This is a house, after all. Someone might come over, maybe... a neighbor?" "In the middle of the night like this?" Jonah blinked. "But, we don't have any neighbors, Haze. The nearest house is a few hundred meters down the forest slope." The smile on Hazel's lips faded instantly, like a candle blown out by the wind, leaving a straight, tense line. Jonah's words slapped her back to reality.

It's the same sick feeling I'd had last night when I'd tried so hard not to look at him. Nausea. Nadia is still talking. I catch only fragments. “...and you know how it goes. You're still on house arrest.” I nod as though I've been listening. “Oh, and you have a neighbor.” My attention sharpens. A neighbor? That pulls me out of the dark place. Excitement stirs. A neighbor means someone to talk to. They might even become a friend. Maybe I won't be completely alone here. Nadia soon leaves, and I wander toward the balcony to wait. Then I stop at the sight.

But the two seemed like they didn’t hear what she just said. “Who are you?” The two asked in unison. Leila’s forehead creased – as she felt the sudden tension dripping in the air. She couldn’t even understand why. However, what she knew that she had to do was to lighten their mood. “Well, Duncan, this is Hunter… Uh, my… my neighbor. H-Hunter, this is Duncan, my childhood friend.” Leila introduced the two – still curious the rising stiffness between them. However, it seemed like the tension between them escalated.

The call ended again. Ugggh! I don't know Gabriel's number and that was my only hope. I exhale a tired sigh and walked defeated back to my cell. Brandon shoots me a mocking glance when he sees that I’ve returned. I settle as far away from him as humanly possible. I was stuck here, in prison after all. And worse of all, I was stuck with my annoying grumpy ass neighbor, Brandon. At least the day couldn't get any worse right?

My best friend insisted I get a professional to check the entire place for spy cameras, so I did. Finally, my life resumed normal once more. I started looking for a new lady roommate. This time, I was much more cautious than before. I no longer want another creepy roommate. Late at night, when all was quiet next door, I finally had the night to myself. "That idiot. If he were to watch the video earlier, he would have realized I'm not a woman." Yes. Yours truly, a man.

The fastest he could think of. “Can I help you?” His voice was strained and glaringly unfriendly. The neighbor seemed…baffled. Slightly. “Uh, well like I said earlier, I’m the new neighbor.” He cleared his throat. “And I’m sorry to bother you—because it clearly looks like it— but I was curious about one thing.” Theo cocked his brow, silently urging him on. “So, I was wondering if you have some kind of hearing loss or something?” It was Theo’s turn to be baffled. “What?”
