Meg POV Present I don’t know who has me this time but they are not taking me back into the bunker. It’s like the last time I hear things but can’t move and what I’m hearing is muffled. I’m not in a vehicle this time it feels as if they are carrying me through the woods. “They won’t be here till tomorrow.” I hear a female voice say. “She should be fine here for now.” I hear a male say. As he lays me down on the ground. “But I can’t be here when they come.”

“Jane this is Senyor Miguel, he’s the one who’s looking after this place” “It’s nice to meet you Senyor Miguel” “Is everything ready Senyor Migues?” “Si Senyor, all is ready” “Senyor, we have a little bit of a problem. I already called the electrician but because of the weather he could only come tomorrow morning. The only light that is working is in the sitting room. We do not know what the problem is, but it doesn’t seem that the electricity is flowing over to other parts of the hotel. The sitting room and reception have a different line than to the other parts”

I laughed, shaking my head as they sped on, whooping and hollering as they leaned out the windows, obviously enjoying their new freedom, too. I shook my head, smiling as heat filled my cheeks at having been busted, but it felt good to hear. A moment later, the song ended and Garth Brooks’ If Tomorrow Never Comes came on the radio and I started singing along. It was a sad song, but had such a great message, that if he were to pass away, would the love he gave her be enough to last the rest of her life.

"Did you not get what I said? Smoked ham isn't the same as honey-glazed. I told you to make a honey-glazed ham, so do it. What's with all the questions?" She only said a few words, but it felt like she had turned into someone else entirely. Just moments ago, she had been so warm and kind. Now, she was practically unrecognizable. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. No one had ever spoken to me like that before! I shot a furious look at Wayne. He gently squeezed my hand, trying to calm me down. "Mel made dishes without pickles, Mom," he said. "And look, we do have ham on the table. It's Christmas Eve. Let's just eat."
