Beside the drops of it, the black gives way to a figure and fear crawls into the crevices of my mind, leaving me cold and sweaty as I realize what Rune has drawn. Who. Hekate. Something prompts me to flip the page and I do. The paintings are different on this one. This page is covered with faces and expressions of a young girl. Laughing, happy, angry, sad...it captures everything. Her eyes, her hair, her lips and the flush in her cheeks. There are dates at the top of each page. It's always the same day, but a different year. My birthday. Solstice. I flip the next, fingers trembling, feet cold and frozen and it is more drawings of this girl. Slightly older. Perhaps, by a year.

Because after I was done, I looked down. I saw Angelstar, my wolf, and a beautiful wolf has a midnight color on his tail and under his chest with a shape of a paw on his chest. I knew it was a bigger guy than her and me because they were on the mountain top watching the sky. Then something came to my mind. So I started drawing on the other pad. I was underlining the picture and coloring and shadowy the part of the picture. Once I was done. I gasped and hid my flush face because I had drawn a girl with beautiful platinum blonde hair and purple eyes, but I kept my eyes on her. Oh, my God! The drawing looks just like-

For a moment, the usual hardness in his expression faded as he stared at the drawings. He raised a finger and pointed at the first figure. “This one is the Luna holding Gab,” he said softly. Then he pointed to the figure beside her. “And this one… that’s you.” I stared at the rough sketches on the wall. Even with simple charcoal lines, the drawing somehow captured the protective way I always stood. “And this is Henry,” Julius continued, moving his finger to the next figure. “And these two have to be Alpha Stone and Mr. D. And this one…”

Her heartbeat quickened, not with fear, but with that strange kind of anticipation that only comes when something hidden is just within reach. She knelt down, slowly this time. Gently, deliberately, she pulled the drawer open fully. Inside: more drawings. Crayon sketches on yellowed paper — childish but full of detail. Two boys under a mango tree, one taller, one grinning with front teeth missing. Another of a house, clearly the Kareem mansion, drawn with careful precision and love. The name “Rami” was scribbled in the corner of one page. Zara’s fingers trembled as she lifted an old essay from a thin folder. It was worn at the edges, but the handwriting was neat, even, and emotional. At the

“I drew this! It’s a horse.” I took the paper carefully. The drawing was crooked but sweet, then beside the horse was something that looked like a wolf. “What's this?” I asked “It's you…” “That’s me?” I was shocked. She nodded. “Yes, see I got your hair right, it's bigggg.” Lexi chuckled again, covering her mouth. “She’s not wrong.” I smiled and folded the drawing carefully. “Then I’ll keep it.” Later, when they were inside, Lexi stood to collect the mugs. “You’re good with them,” she said without looking at me.

She’d taken an interest in drawing lately, and it had stuck more than her previous interests had. But then again, she’s only five. There was plenty of time for her to find herself yet. “This is me, this is Mommy, this is Daddy, this is you Uncle Kells, and Aunt Gemi, Simon, Sawyer and Sadie,” she frowns. “I couldn’t draw Uncle Haden and Aunt Gemi big, so they are small.” She points to the smaller figures at the side. I notice another figure drawn in between Lucy and the figure who is supposed to be me, smaller than everyone and beaming.

Were they just broken and hurting on the inside? Seeing the glee in the tormenter's eyes--she guessed it was more than that. They genuinely seemed to enjoy it. Jacob dropped the folder he'd been clutching onto for dear life and watched in horror as pieces of paper flew in every direction. On closer inspection, Jenna saw the pieces of paper were drawings. And they were amazing. It appeared to be a hand-drawn comic, inked in black and white, completed with speech bubbles and onomatopoeia. The characters looked like anime drawings, with cute faces and big eyes. They were gorgeous.

Her blonde curls framed her peaceful face, and a soft smile lingered on her lips. I melted at the sight of her. She was just too adorable. Then, I noticed something that didn’t quite belong in bed. A sheet of paper peeked out from beneath her. Carefully, I slid it free. It was a drawing. A family portrait in bright, crayon colors. Two adults, a boy, and a girl. The boy had Liam’s messy mop of hair, and the girl was unmistakably Elena. The two adults… one was me, but the other—

Nicole. “Heidi…” my heart softened as I dropped to my knees beside her. “I’m gonna put them back, I promise. I just wanted mum to stay here for a while.” One of her drawings rested ont he table too, almost covered by mum’s scarf. I pulled it from under there. It wasn’t the best picture but I could tell it was two older women with a child in between them. One of the women’s hair was done with a yellow pencil while the other was black, the child had tiny dots around her head to imitate hair, but what they all had in common was the yellow circles hovering over their heads and the triangle wings.

“Anyways. I’m here, you here. You can show me what I want to see now.” Tiffany pulled out her black book. It looked more of a diary. She opened it and that was when I noticed it was a drawing book. She turned to her most recent drawing and showed me something she drew. Her drawing had some colors on it and it looked so realistic. It was half of a black wolf’s face paired with half of a girl’s face. But not just any girl. The girl in Tiffany’s drawing had orange pin-straight hair. Me. There was a moon dust pendant going around the wolf’s neck and around the girl’s neck as well, allowing the stone to lie between the two. Behind them was a huge bright moon. The picture looked so beautiful and a
