I helped Harry get the ice pack on his ankle and I was just about to go to the other side of the car, to sit at the back with him when Harper stood at the door.
“I’ll sit with him,” she said.
“No,” I said, “you should sit at the front.”
“I was a girl scout,” she said, “I want to help him put the right amount of pressure on his ankle so that it doesn’t swell too much,” she added.
I was unsure. Would this make things awkward?
“It’s okay,” she said as she smiled at me.
“Okay,” I said, choosing to believe her.
