I stammered, barely able to form the words. He narrowed his eyes at me, clearly unimpressed. "As I was saying," he continued, "in the Greko Pack, hierarchy is everything. You must know your place and set clear boundaries. Werewolves are the kings of this pack. Any Wereraven, Wereshark, Werefox, Wereboar, or Lycan who disrespects them will face severe punishment." The class responded in perfect harmony, "Yes, Alpha Berra." A cruel smirk played on his lips. "Good. I am pleased to see that you understand your rank here. There is no place for disobedience." His gaze lingered on me, making my skin crawl.

My father’s wolves will still be loyal, but my hierarchy is unselected as far as the wolves I select for jobs and positions. We are blind in all of this right now. His skin grew several layers, dislodging the Alpha's initial bite, and, tumbling away, he got to his feet, turning to meet his attacker head-on. The Wolf Haven's Alpha was a giant grey creature, covered in scars, denoting his rank as he'd obviously fought off a lot of challenges throughout his reign. He didn't attack straight away, circling instead, as Kellen leaped off the porch, gaining more room to move by being on the ground. All around them, yellow eyes emerged from the darkness, silently bearing witness to the battle threatening to erupt. When two Alpha's fought, the rules were clear; no one must interfere, and it was a fight to the death. The Wolf Haven pack had to obey these rules.

I had even grown used to the omegas who looked like abused children walking around taking care of everyone else. They hardly ever looked up and at first it really bothered me, but in time, I realized it was just the way things worked with werewolves. The omegas weren’t abused, they were showing respect to the ones who were higher in rank. It made sense for there to be some kind of hierarchy. They were animals, after all. They were predators and needed the structure to keep everyone in line.
