Promise. My thumb hovered over the screen. Then I deleted it. The word "promise" made my chest ache. I whispered it to myself, tasting the lie. “You already broke it.” Turning on my side, I cradled my stomach, whispering to the child who would never know him. “It’s just you and me now,” I breathed. “And I swear, I’ll never let anyone break us again.” The night stayed still around me. Deep inside, something changed, a faint trace of strength, enough to survive.

A smile made itself permanent on my face and every word, every moment replayed in my mind even as I laid in bed. What I didn't know was that, I would be the one breaking the very promise I'd made to him. 'I won't let go, I promise.' The day I broke that promise, my heart broke as well.

The sound of rain swallowed her words, carrying them into the night — a quiet promise, and a warning. The dawn would come again. And this time, it wouldn’t break her. It would break them.

He knew that he never cared for the girl and he also knew that he loved Liza with all his heart. He had once promised Liza that he would never let her go, that he will do whatever it takes to keep her for eternity and then he had gone ahead and lost her for some girl he didn’t even care about. Now I walked aimlessly through the snow, thinking how ridiculous those sweet memories and promises seemed. He had plenty of money now, but instead of keeping his promise, he'd transferred all that affection to his mistress.

I knew that he was promised to the daughter of the neighbouring Castle but I believed his promise to me. I knew this when I met him, I still know this now but he had promised to be only mine.
