A man is lying weakly on the floor as another man towers over him with a gun. Gripping the wood tighter, I don't think as I walk up to the gunner, and bash the wood into his head. “How” hit “could” hit “You” hit “try” hit “and kill” hit “a person” final hit. I got a response within seconds, and the answer filled me with anguish. "Certainly not! I'm innocent!" Immediately, another message came in. "Hang on. Don't tell me that's why you came at me with two machetes in hand and hunted me down the streets like a dog. I didn't do anything!"

Then I heard the crack. It didn't register as a gunshot at first. Just a loud pop, like a car backfiring. Then I felt it. A punch in my back that knocked the air from my lungs. I collapsed against the front door, hands clawing at the wood. I couldn't breathe. My fingers smeared red across the glass. Inside, Elijah's voice shouted my name.
