The four most powerful beings in the Grayhall Manor trial—my family—accompanied me all the way out, reluctantly seeing me off to... the spiraling stone staircase leading down to the lower nests. I was clutching a pile of "little gifts" they had stuffed into my arms, so moved I was almost on the verge of tears. Who said this blood moon trial was full of twists and terror? Weren't these my most intimate, most adorable family members? The werewolf audience watching through their mental screens scrolled through their comments with obvious envy:

Water bottles, eggs, even stones were hurled at me, raining down in an endless storm. I stood there, face pale, making no attempt to dodge as the blows split my skin and left me drenched in blood. In the past, if I so much as got a scratch, Jonah would have carried me straight to the hospital in a panic. But now, he looked at my battered body without the slightest change of emotion. "Continue the trial," he said indifferently. On the giant screen, several henchmen knelt trembling before Austin.

Everyone were discussing with each other about the test that would happen later. "Miss Hirre, please follow me." A security guard of the training ground approached and spoke to me. Why do I need a separate test? I had no any idea why he suddenly called me but since I didn't feel any ill intent, and I was a bit curious as well, I decided to follow behind him. We headed to a certain room. "Please come in." He assisted me toward that certain room. But I was a little bit surprised when I saw Severus who was there inside, standing beside the huge medical equipment. eeing this machine makes me more sure that this is the machine to detect black magic...

Higgins boasted his ability, in retrospect of what he had accomplished with it. "But you can't do any of that now, can you? You abandoned your art a long time ago. The Necromancer in you is all but a washed up, newly turned werewolf." Rayla harnessed the rage within him, forcing him to tighten his fist and envision a mirage where he would knock her to her knees yet he comported himself. Higgins drew a sigh of relief to calm the spiteful aura inside him, "As much as I hate to reveal my being wrong the third time now, what do you want from me." Higgins had now become filled with compassion, or at least no other option.

An elder announced. “This is the first of three trials,” he continued, stepping forward. “A test of intelligence.” Murmurs rippled through the crowd. I could do intelligence… oh who was I kidding? I was utterly doomed. “It commences now!” His voice boomed and there was a change in the air. Magic erupted in the air and I barely had a second to understand what was happening before the world around me warped.

Robes in crimson and black, eyes gleaming with curiosity, doubt, or something sharper. Waiting. Watching. Hoping to see her break. At the topmost tier, seated like judgment itself, Headmistress Vale loomed in her carved throne of basalt and flame. Her robes spilled around her like molten silk, and the golden dragonmark on her brow glowed bright under the sky. “This trial,” she said, her voice cutting through the heavy air, “will determine whether Rowan Blake possesses the control required to remain at Arcadia.” In simpler terms: Prove yourself—or burn.

The trials? I glanced back at my dog-eared copy of the Codex of Holy Light. After a moment's thought, I nodded. "I got you a new wand! You can finally throw away that crude thing you always use. You need something better for the trials!" She pressed an exquisite wand box into my hands. I spent another day buried in my books. It wasn't until the morning of the trials that I finally opened the box. Inside was an ornate piece of junk. It was a pretty trinket, not a tool. Too many crystals, rough wood. Its mana conductivity was practically zero.
