Home Fires Novels & Stories

“At least a dozen buildings are burning. And this is not normal fire. There is magic in it. It is not spreading the way ordinary flames would.” “Seraphine,” Kael growled. We reached the eastern district and found pure chaos. Wolves ran with buckets of water. Families hurried out of burning homes. At the center of it all, flames burned with an unnatural green tint. “Fall back!” I shouted. “Everyone get away from the fires!” “But our homes—” someone protested. “Can be rebuilt,” I snapped. “Lives cannot. Fall back now!” Helena had already set up a triage area for burns and smoke inhalation.

“We called Keely when we couldn’t get you on your cell and she told us to check here.” “The house burned?” “Yeah, honey, I’m sorry.” “Is there anything left?” “Didn’t appear to be. Didn’t spread to the barn or any of the outbuildings so they’re assumin’ it was just somethin’ in the house that somehow ignited.” AJ nodded numbly. “I know Ma told you we’d been having problems with both the propane and the old coal furnace. Some of the wiring was kinda iffy too. I can’t believe it. If I would’ve been there, maybe—”

✧ADAM MEADOWS✧ ROGEL and I stood a safe distance away, watching the proud brick unfinished house burn until it came time to contain it before it spread out of control. The house sat on acres of private property in countryside, and no one would know about the fire until hours, if not days, later. Not unless I told them. Perfect. But I knew that eventually, someone would discover this burned house. It would be a tragic tale of a cheating wife, where a lover's discarded cigarette started the fire.

"Nina is inside, she must be inside. Please, you have to save her. I'm begging you, you must get her out!" Almost instantly, Lucas pieced together what had happened. Nina must have discovered his affair with Melody. Unable to accept it all, she had set a large fire, planning to burn herself in the house... Otherwise, why would his house suddenly catch fire? The villa he bought had been specially equipped with smoke detectors during renovation. Once anything was ignited, the smoke detectors would immediately sound and automatically spray water, stopping the fire before it could spread. How could such a smart home have a fire?

Water elder had come as well but even she couldn't put it out. The demons were all perplexed over the issue, the fire didn't spread to the other houses in the vicinity. It simply focused on Fire elder's mansion. "This is very strange." Iris said as they stood outside the burning mansion. "Yes, very strange." Theodore agreed with her. "I have never seen such a fire before, it's even capable of causing harm to fire users." Iris continued. "It's very strange indeed." Theodore said. Gad peered at Theodore suspiciously, "Are you sure you know nothing about this?" he asked.

He could feel the heat of the flames from where he stood, and the acrid smoke stung his eyes and throat. The firefighters worked tirelessly for hours, but the mansion was a lost cause. The flames had spread too quickly and too far, consuming everything in their path. Dmitry stood off to the side, his heart heavy with grief and anger. He knew that finding another mansion was easy, but he was more concerned about finding the person or persons responsible for this act of arson. He had enemies, many of them, but he never thought anyone would go this far.

After what had happened the night before, James went up to his room and lay down. He was wide awake, and it wouldn't be long before the sun came up anyway. The fire had happened because of an appliance that had been left plugged in the bathroom. Probably a hair straightener or something like that. It started there, and quickly caught on the towel next to it, moving on to the curtains and the carpet.

"Then you'd better pray, because I can't let my men go back in there." Within minutes, the entire house was engulfed in flames. The firefighters fought hard to put it out. Liam scanned the building desperately, searching for any sign of Max. Amid the chaos, he struggled to stay calm, praying with everything he had that she wasn't inside. The firefighters worked tirelessly, spraying the blaze with water and fire retardant to stop it from spreading. Finally, after what felt like forever, the fire was extinguished, and only smoke rose from the ruins of what used to be his home.

"He needs no introduction to all of you, and you're aware he's here because we have a serious problem." Everyone was silent while they waited for Dan to begin. They had all worked the three recent terrible fires, and arson had been on everyone's mind. "I'd like to have better news for you," he began, "but, unfortunately, we've determined that these fires were deliberately set. Arson. What we call, as you know, incendiary. They all began on the first floor, in the back, in an empty room. Piles of old cloths and newspapers were used, covered with paint thinner, which is a dangerous incendiary." He looked at everyone. "One thing is a little different about these than several others I've investi

(Dimitri ’s P.O.V.) We step out of the house slowly. There’s not much we can do, we saw the houses being engulfed by the flames from my cousin’s window, luckily everyone was at my father’s house having brunch so no one is harmed. The firemen are already here and are doing their jobs, we can’t do much aside from watching them work. I just hope they are not going to start asking too many questions afterward, they wouldn’t have a motive though, as far as they are concerned we are just a regular family that shares a piece of land and lives together. Hopefully, they won’t get too curious and if they do, we can always try to bribe them.
