He dropped the box and pulled me into his lap, burying his face in my neck, his entire frame shaking with happy, jagged sobs. He held me as if I were the most precious thing in the universe, his hands trembling against the small of my back. “I didn’t think… I didn’t think we could have this,” he choked out. “After everything they did to you… I thought they had stolen this from us too.”

She saw Xander crying. "Oh, my love, I'm so so sorry," Gabbie uttered and hugged him in a flash. She can't stand seeing Xander this hurt. "I'm sorry for what happened to your mother," she continued. As I walked down the lonely sloppy road which wasn't too far from the campsite, tears welled up in my eyes.
