Melody's POV Dorian leaned against the podium, his expression gloomy as he puffed on a cigarette. He appeared detached and unconcerned, but the string of numbers Candice had shown me last time… It was Dorian's phone number. I had memorized it over a hundred times. I was so familiar with it that I could recognize it at just a single glance. When we were kids, Dorian used to tug on my braids and force me to memorize that number, making sure I could recite it both forward and backward.

Dorian shouted, jumping out of the truck, pulling me from my thoughts. I hugged him tight, glad to see him, though I couldn’t help but notice how much bigger he was now. "Look at you, getting taller every time I see you." Dorian introduced Pax, and I shook his hand, still trying to wrap my head around the idea of Seren being involved with someone like him. “I didn’t expect to see you here,” I said to Pax, still trying to keep my tone neutral. “I came with Dorian,” Pax said with a smile, though there was something guarded in his eyes. “Good to see you, Beta Darius Morrow.”

“It won’t stop. It will recover, it will evolve, and next time… you might not be so lucky.” Kai’s jaw clenched. “And what? You want to help us?” The man’s eyes gleamed. “Let’s just say I have a vested interest in how this all plays out.” Sasha didn’t trust him. Not for a second. “Who are you?” A long pause. Then, finally, he gave a slow, almost mocking bow. “You may call me Dorian.” The name sent an uneasy shiver through her. Kai stepped forward, his voice dangerous. “Why are you really here?”

His presence was commanding, almost regal, and there was something about him that made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. “Who the hell are you?” Fiona demanded, her voice sharp and defensive. The man smiled, a cold, calculating smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “My name is Dorian,” he said smoothly. “And I’ve been waiting for you.” Before we could react, the shadows around us began to shift and swirl, closing in like a tidal wave. The trap had been sprung.

He asks “If the shoe fits” I lie down on the couch beside him and snatches the remote so that I can watch cooking shows. A little while later, Damian diappears in front of me, and begins microwaving food. He returns minutes later holding out a hot bowl of something. When I look in the bowl, I see it’s teriyaki with white rice. “If I had known getting sick would cause you to become my own personal chef, I would have gotten sick sooner”

For them. They were coming through faster now. The lost. The murdered. The forgotten. Spirits with unfinished hunger. Some whispered. Some screamed. Some laughed as they rose. Allowed them to rise, to stand, to come back for what they wanted to come back to. To get what they wanted and what they deserved. But one was silent. Always silent. Dorian. Sienna’s father. The man that I believed, I loved. He had been dead for years. Not hidden. Not erased. Just gone, peacefully, stubbornly, still.

A tissue hung out of my nostril, clutched in one hand like my last shred of dignity. I was already mentally preparing myself for the sight of a package guy or maybe Mark, here to guilt-trip me into watching Elf for the fifth time. But when I opened the door and saw who was standing there… The tissue slipped from my fingers. “Dorian?” He was holding a travel bag. He looked like he hadn’t slept for a while, his red hair tied into a fucking man bun. Heat lanced through me so hot, I had to bite the insides of my cheeks. If Dorian with a buzz cut looked scrumptious, this red haired dude in front of me with the man bun....could melt the ice off a rink.

"My husband is not going to come and save me. There is so much you don't know. I'm of very little use to your cause. Let me go and I might find something for you. Any amount of money you want." She didn't say a word to me in response, instead, she focused on strapping my sprained ankle and applying burning ointment to the sores. Just then she stood up and headed to the door, but she turned to me. "I don't know who you are, "I've known Dorian for years. He doesn't explain himself. He doesn't answer questions. He doesn't even look people in the eye when he's delivering a job. Yet he stood here listening to you. Don't try to take what is mine, and you might as well pray to the goddess for death

"Still dreaming. Though after this morning, I'm not sure 'Serene Sky' will ever feel truly serene again." Chloe raised an eyebrow, her gentle curiosity piqued. "What happened this morning? You seemed a little… preoccupied when we texted." Before I could formulate a response that didn't involve the unnerving reappearance of Victoria, Earnest chimed in, his tone light and dismissive. "Oh, you know," he said, a casual shrug accompanying his words, "just a blast from the past. An old acquaintance of my darling's decided to grace us with her presence."
