Toby noticed that Dorian was looking at him. Faced with a child, he softened his gaze and held his hand out to Dorian. "Hello, I'm Toby Jacobs," he said seriously. Dorian was stunned. Then, he held his hand out to Toby and shook it. "Hello, I'm Dorian." Toby didn't seem to treat him like a child at all. He treated him like a man. Dorian suddenly felt much more confident.

I slid out and onto my butt with an oomph. I heard Dorian laugh and searched for him. He sat in a large yellow beanbag chair. His sandy hair was wet and combed back, and he had on a pair of gray sweatpants and a Patriots tee shirt. "You're so graceful," he said, his voice filled with happiness. What the hell was this? I heard a shuffle to my left and turned to see Dorian standing there, leaning against a small wooden stand. He was wearing a faded jeans, a plain black T-shirt, and a cool sneakers. But his face? He was grinning like he’d just won the lottery, his eyes bright and nervous all at once. “Dorian, what’s going on?” I asked, taking a step toward him. My voice came out shakier than I meant it to. He didn’t answer right away, just kept smiling, his hands shoved in his pockets. “You like it?” he asked, nodding toward the decorations.
