"It is possible, but I am almost scared to believe this... You know... hope is the most hopeless thing in the world." Hope bloomed in my chest, but like I said, it really was a scary feeling. Instead of giving power, it sometimes took away the power. I took in a deep breath, filling my lungs with the cold air. I didn't want to think too much about it. I was afraid to believe in this possibility. For once in my life, I wanted to trust that everything wasn't completely destroyed, but I knew not to trust anything. I had learnt my lessons the hard way.

“We are not dying here. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. I just got a new heart, and I would like to push it to its full capacity. The deafening silence seemed to slow down the hands of time. Hazel felt like the whole city fell quiet, and she hated this silence. She felt confused, upset, and hopeless. 'Hopeless? Why would I feel hopeless? I knew from the start that nothing's ever going to happen, so why would I feel hopeless?' Hazel scoffed at her own thoughts. She always knew that whatever was happening between them was all part of the deal. She never hoped for anything to happen. It was all for show—nothing was real. Hazel denied the thought without hesitation, despite hearing the little voice from her heart that kept going against her.

People say we can't pin our hopes on someone. No matter how good they are. Humans are fallible creatures, and we can disappoint others unintentionally. We can also abandon others. Our hearts can flip. One second, we love someone. The next, we can hate them. So what can help? It's by not expecting anything from someone. I've done it before, and when it hit me my whole life, I was devastated. But I found hope in myself again, which comes from trusting myself and realizing that no one else but me can make me happy.
