Not upward. Closer. The pressure alone made my knees buckle. Macy raised both hands. Ancient symbols burned around his fingers. “Close your eyes!” Blue light exploded through the room. The shadows shrieked. The dozens of tiny hands withdrew instantly. The false child hissed. And for one horrible second— Lyra's face peeled away. Not literally. But reality bent around her. Like her features couldn't hold their shape. Too many eyes. Too many mouths. Something immense hidden beneath the illusion.

Just as I thought it would be, my visit to my family's home for the first time since nearly a year of being married was a disaster. ~~~ I got home and received the most horrifying news or rather, I saw the most horrifying thing. Someone had ripped my sketchbook into shreds and laid it in the middle of my bed for me to walk into. I picked it up and ran downstairs. "Who did this?!" I screamed, feeling the angry tears sting my eyes as I held the shredded pieces of paper. It was so silent, it felt like I was talking to myself. "Who went into my room and did this? Someone answer me!" I yelled again and they all moped at me.

She said she was horrified, and suddenly the old tree showed its eyes and mouth. "Illusion tree?" Nara said slowly. An illusion tree where the victim will feel the illusion of life that the victim wants to feel. Then the tree will manifest and refuse to return to the real world. Even that person will die, and at that moment the illusion trees will absorb the energy of their victims.

With a dramatic twirl around, before their eyes, she turned into a much older lean woman with dark ring curls framing her long face, and then she gave a dramatic bow. The mysterious shadows moving in the darkness, warping perception and projecting hallucinations that reflected each person's deepest fears, intensified the fear that had gripped the remaining group.
