Horror Picture Books Novels & Stories

I stared at the title. Grim Boundaries, Containment Rituals and Demonic Anchors. Alright. That was on the nose. I tugged it free. It thudded onto the table like it weighed more than it should. The pages were vellum-thin, covered in curling script and ink illustrations that danced uncomfortably close to realism. Demons, mostly. Circles. Knots. Symbols. Some looked familiar from childhood fairy tales, horror movies, that phase in college when I thought being into witchcraft was a personality.

Oh, right, the Horror Camp. I spent the rest of the afternoon in the dayroom. Following Amy’s suggestion, Brett and the other medium had brought some toys: colored balloons, balls, ragdolls, cars. Since the twins didn’t need the magnetic boards anymore, I’d brought them for the Pennhurst children. So there I was, reading on my phone one of my school books, when a ball rolled shyly to come stop a foot away from me. I knew I wouldn’t keep reading and put my phone away.

A sigh follows my silence, and he lifts one hand and slides his hood down, sending me into a sudden frozen moment of trepidation that he might be unveiling some grotesque creature I thought only existed in the grimoires in Rema’s dungeon. Visions flash through my mind of the ogres and trolls in the books. Bulging eyes, misshapen skulls, large gross teeth dripping with saliva and blood, or green pus oozing from skin littered with warts and sores. Pictures of demon-like creatures dwelling in dark places, and I am rooted to the spot, unable to look away. I hold my breath, squeeze up my shoulders to hold in any unwelcome reaction that may anger him, and then balk in disbelief when what is unveil

"Nah! No third option, Riri," Beatrix gulped. The title of the second book was 'The troublesome flowers'. It may seem like an interesting book about beautiful ladies and romance but really it's not. It was a horror story. Half a page of this book that she glanced at last year made her have sleepless nights. This book served the purpose of building the heart's strength and courage. A wizard or witch from time to time would go on missions. None of them was a stroll in the park. If one was not valiant, he/she wouldn't be able to do so. But she was still a babe. How can he read this sort of book to her? Is he truly her brother?

“Really?” “Yep. And they have pictures of it. It’s really gory and bloody.” “Sweet.” The kid bounded away from me, hurrying toward Isobel as she opened the book on the top of her pile and started to flip through pages. “Here it is.” She knelt down next to him. Kit’s eyes grew wide as he stared. “Gross,” he cooed in absolute awe. Isobel glanced up at me and grinned. “And, ooh, you should see the picture of the woodcutter cutting open the stomach of the big bad wolf in Little Red Riding Hood.” She flipped a few more pages until they came to the one she was looking for.

I stayed with Adley in her small living room, watching horror movies about creatures that didn’t exist in this world, until darkness smothered the outside world, peeking in through the sheer curtains that made their living room feel all too exposed. “Zombies always give me the creeps.” Adley shuddered, “There’s something so scary about coming back from the dead, having your face and limbs rot like that. Bleh, no thank you.” “I can’t be afraid of zombies, not when things like ghouls and Librarian’s exist.” I let out a hearty laugh, trying to imagine a hoard of zombies maneuvering through the forest at night.

"Just her fingernails are more beautiful than your whole being. You know what? You can have the room to yourself." I picked up a pillow and left, banging the door so hard that the entire house shook. KINGDOM OF THE GHOSTS OF TERROR A multitude of naked figures could be seen in the dark all sitting before a terrifying figure sitting on a throne with a golden crown on his head. From the aura, he was exuding and how all the figures before him slightly bowed their heads to him, it was obvious that he was their king. A great terrifying scary king with a scar so deep running across his cheek down to his jaw. He was merely sitting yet was towering over everyone. It can't be mistaken to call him a g

Finally, she found the one she was looking for. Layla managed to grab the book and add it to her stack in her arms when her eyes caught sight of something. A book stood out among the rest. It was bound with dark brown leather and had brandished designs on the spine. The title read - Malleus Vampiro: A Treatise on Vampires. Placing her other books on the floor, Layla pulled the leather-bound book from its home amongst the others and opened it. As her eyes skimmed the pages, she caught a couple of words; SHADOW STALKERS, BLOODSUCKER, PHANTOMS.

She lays it on the floor in the middle of our huddle and flicks through the brittle, browning pages. Inside, there are illustrations of creatures. I quickly see Lycans and Werewolves and Humans, as well as Witches and Wizards. But then she stops and shows us a whole picture on a page. It’s the picture of some kind of humanoid form, melting and dripping on the floor. White dead eyes. Shadow surrounding it. Gammie looks at us with a grim expression. “The thing that we are up against is the most dangerous of all. The Shape Shifter.”
