Jon only gave me a brief side glance, almost looking askance at me, but said nothing and continued to drive deeper into the woods. The cabin was now beyond a humble abode, to me the brown wooden structure tarnished with white and black from failed attempts to revive its derelict appearance with paint, resembled those haunted cabins in the woods in horror movies and those cabins were infamous for many things- none of which are pleasant. I felt like I was walking into some deformed serial killer's lair or into a domain for creatures of the night and supernatural entities; ghosts, vampires and wicked witches with an appetite for human flesh.

The puzzle of this barbarity unsettled me, a rare crack forming in the otherwise composed facade I wore. The moon, an impassive observer, hung aloft in the night sky, casting its indifferent light upon the unfolding horror. A disquieting sensation gripped me, a nagging suspicion that we were being manipulated, that an insidious malevolence had emerged from the very depths of the shadows, evading rational explanation.

Suddenly, an explosion vibrated the ground and when I looked up, a black smoke emitted in the air toward the hamlet. “Randolph!” A gasp escaped my lips. Grabbing my dress, I darted back to the forest and ran. My feet flew over dead leaves and stones as I scouted for the hamlet, the branches of the trees whipped my face and tugged at my dress. My heart thumped behind my chest as I zigzagged through the sparsely darkened forest. Suddenly, I arrived at the hamlet and the scene before me almost crippled me. Before me were terrifying monsters from my nightmares; lycans; as my father would call them; they pounced and ripped apart the bodies of my father’s men who have also shifted into their wolve

The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the deserted streets. Helena crouched in the shadows, the thick most of the night helping to conceal her, heart pounding with adrenaline as she scanned the area for any sign of movement. The air was thick with the scent of fear and the coppery tang of blood. She knew she was getting closer to her target, a rogue vampire who had been terrorizing the town for weeks.
