"They have replaced the structural integrity of your skeleton with their own. If we kill them—if we even attempt to move them—your entire frame will collapse into a heap of fine, white powder. You aren't a man carrying a parasite anymore. You are a living monument. You are the mound." I tried to stand, to flee from the madness in his eyes, but as I shifted my weight, a sickening crunch echoed through the quiet room. It wasn't the sound of a bone breaking. The skeleton at first did not seem to notice the man, which was no surprise as it lacked any eyes to speak of. Only hollow dents showed any sign of where two eyes had once been. The creature continued on through the room before it paused in its steps. Slowly its head cocked to the side as if it seemed confused by something or other. "For now. My hounds do not like metal. It breaks their teeth." The creature stood up. It was tall, impossibly thin. Its bones clicked like dice in a cup. "But hunger is creative, Warden. If you cannot eat the nut... you eat the soil around it." The Skeleton walked to the ventilation shaft. He sniffed the air drifting down from D.C. "The boy is safe. But his garden..." The Skeleton smiled. His teeth were needles. "The garden is soft." He reached into his rags and pulled out a handful of dust. It wasn't gray dust. It was red.

It was instantly broken apart and pushed inward. A black, still wet hand reached in. That was what Alex saw through the light that leaked in through the broken door “D*mn it!” Alex was very shocked. That hand belonged to a skeleton without any flesh and blood. Unlike the previous skeleton king, its bones were black. “Meow!” the white cat cried sternly. Alex instantly threw a punch at the skeleton’s arm. A tremor occurred with a boom. This black skeleton’s defense was not as great as the skeleton king, so its arm was broken apart right away.

I muttered, staggering to my feet and grabbing the coat I’d left by a nearby gravestone. Together, we approached the box again. I held my breath as I peered inside and I immediately felt the air get sucked right out of my lungs. It was a skeleton. But not just any skeleton, iIt was longer than any human I’d ever seen, probably eight or nine feet tall. It's bones shimmered like glass yet looked as sturdy as steel. It was so clear that it glinted in the moonlight, and I noticed gold engravings everywhere across the bones.

"You won't feel it." When Willow turned to look, she noticed a skeleton sitting on a gravestone. She screamed as she stared into his hollow eyes and again fell to the ground, but this time neither pain nor cold overcame her. "You're the girl with the prince," the skeleton said. He was kneeling with his elbows on his knees and his head resting on his hands. "Who are you? Where am I?" Willow immediately questioned, her voice revealing her fear.

Being in a town on the smaller side made it so you became used to long stares from strangers. I cocked my head to the side and raised my brow. “We aren’t on the first floor yet?” I asked, keeping my voice firm. “Soon,” he said, still staring at me. That was all he could say. No apologies or explanations. Just continued staring creepily. I held my bag tighter to my body and thought of what to say to scare him away. “I have a gun and I am not afraid to use it,” I said.
