“Were these any help, detective?” “I’m afraid not,” I said, defeated. I was in a bit of a daze after staring at projected newsprint on the dim screen. I leaned on the desk and looked around the building absentmindedly until my eyes finally settled on a small sign hanging on a table covered with a neat stack of books. “Warning: The Library is Not Responsible for Nightmares!” I read out loud, walking over to look at the books. Well-worn volumes with pink skulls grinning back at me from stickers on their spines. Dracula. Frankenstein. The Invisible Man.

“IT’S JUST I HAD a different book in mind when ink spilled on this one, plus what’s left to do in a finished book?” They, of course, ignored me Completely probably deciding if I would not explain, they were just going to proceed. One of the three waved their hand above the inky darkness we were standing on, and instantly a book on a pedestal was in front of them on the floor. It showed off my title, ‘1001 Dark Tales’. I instantly held my breath, hoping they didn’t realize what that meant. But if they had, they said nothing. Instead, they just started flipping through the pages of the book, looking for which store to choose.

The next second, the Patchwork Monster tore the man in half. He tossed the body outside casually. Just then, a crisp, bell-like voice sounded outside. “It’s after work hours, who’s so rude as to be throwing bodies around?” A young girl with three heads and eight arms appeared at the doorway. With just one look at the shop, anger filled her voice, and her hair stood on end. “Who the hell had a death wish and smashed the Number One Must-Eat shop in the entire horror game?”

She chuckled to herself, wondering why the authors bothered with such misleading names. One particular book caught her eye - 'Blood Lust'. Raven couldn't help but roll her eyes at the title, feeling annoyed at the lack of originality. "Might as well give the writers of these books a Nobel prize for nice book titles," she grumbled under her breath as she opened the book. The first picture she came across made her pause. It was a disturbing image of a man with his head buried deep in the neck of a woman who was sitting down, with blood dripping from her neck.

They were self-explanatory, and she would be able to tell which part of the book was most promising. She flipped through until she reached the back of the book with the cautionary tales. She skipped over the first one about Lysander, and the next few didn't seem promising either. Story after story passed by, and she was about to give up and read it closely for hints . . . until the very last section. Her fingers froze, her breath caught in her chest, and horror coursed through her veins as she read the title of the section: 'Blood Magic and the Creation of the Vampire-Human Child'

As if Billy embarrassing me earlier wasn’t enough, Sharon and her groupies just had to make it worse. ‘What do you want Sharon?’ I asked her with a little bit of whatever confidence was left in me. ‘I don’t want anything. I’m just surprised a young girl like you have a name like that. The last time I heard about a name like that was when my grandmother told me stories from the Apartheid era. It's shocking they still exist. Apartheid died a long time ago along with names like yours’. Sharon said at the amusement of her friends and all the other uninvited students.

Maybe that is the reason why I have no problem in communicating even if I don’t talk to people much. ‘This Time I Will Not Love You' This novel sounds so hurting. I think I won’t be interested in this since I have no love life or whatsoever. ‘To The World I Wish…’ ‘Reckoning Love…’ ‘Mystery Caller' ‘Untold Secrets…’ ‘Unfolding Secrets…’ JUST WHY THE HELL DOES IT SOUNDS SO SPOOKY?!?!? “Alright let’s look for other books to read...” I tried to calm myself just to not let me feel the spookiness in the titles of the books I saw. A very interesting book caught my attention. Unlike the others, it was… handwritten.

Beneath the unfinished HERE LIES line, smaller text glowed into being, as if responding to the brush of my breath on the stone. Titles. In a neat column, each one is separated by a tiny, blood‑red dot. “Salt & Silence.” “Ghosts in the Vents.” “Grin Wiring.” “The Bone City.” “Housekeeping for the Damned.” “Untitled Train Thing.” “Dead Girls Don’t Trend.” “Threadcount.” Some had skull icons next to them, jagged and final. Some had hourglasses, half‑full, sand frozen mid‑fall. One or two just… flickered, as if the system didn’t know whether to mark them as alive or dead.

But as the images sharpen, horror crawls up my spine. The thumbnails are nauseating. Young boys and girls—far too young—are bound and bleeding, their eyes empty or wide with terror. Some scenes show adults masked in wolf imagery, laughing while they hurt them. The titles are vile. “Training the Pack," "Little Prey," "Broken Howls." "Jesus," Hayden breathes, his voice hollow. All the blood drains from my face. I feel sick to my stomach. "They've been doing this for years," my husband whispers, his voice cracking with disgust and rage. "This isn't just Rachel. This is... a network."

And maybe in the end I'll succeed. The ideas have never stopped flowing, and amidst the difficulties, I've gathered them together to tell even more stories. I have a notebook full of ideas, story segments just waiting for the right piece to fit into. I've conceived many new universes. I have a love story planned that I hope will make your heart skip a beat, between two young people wounded by the world. A horror story that I hope will take your breath away, with its demons. A fantasy that I hope will transport you to a world of mysterious creatures and strange rites.
