So far, I didn't see any members of Nightshade or anything suspicious, but that wasn't to say that the threat wasn't there. Surprisingly, I don't find the idea disturbing. Feeling boredom as it sets in quickly, I make my way over to the bookshelf. I start to peruse the titles and am shocked at what I find. I see the House of Night Series, The Twilight Series, Forbidden Knowledge, Harry Potter Trilogy, and various books on Military Protocols all with black covers. The books are all in good condition too. Not interested in any of the military books I reach for the first book in the House of Night Series. As I take the book over to the couch to settle in, the door swings open.

Only the sight of the house saved me. I bolted from the car, desperate for a cold shower to burn off the fire. But before I could escape down the hall, I froze. Cassie stood behind me, eyes wide and glistening, like a lost little lamb begging not to be abandoned. “Can you stay with me tonight?” she whispered. I groaned. “Cassie, please we talked..” But she closed the distance, her finger pressing gently against my lips. “I promise I won’t cross the line. I just…I can’t sleep alone tonight. Please?” Her breath was shaky, her eyes damp with sincerity.

After the boys had left my room, I went through my bag and pulled out my favorite book, Night Flame, by Catherine Hart. I sat back in my chair by the window, prepared to spend the rest of the afternoon reading when a shiver ran down my spine. I jumped out of my seat and spun around to see a pair of yellow eyes glowing in the corner of the room. As those eyes drew closer to me, I realized that it was Simon, the fae that came to warn me the other day.

I would like to thank all of you who stuck with me through this series of books, and even those of you who have only read this book (or just two of the three). It has taken me a year to work through all three books, but I was determined to do my best to end the series on a sweet note. — The House by the Sea, Night Deep into the night, silence enveloped the house overlooking the sea. The distant sound of waves drifted through the windows, filling the emptiness with a soft but steady rhythm. Daniel and Rovan were asleep, each in their own room, enveloped in the stillness that followed a night of terror. Malik and Dima emerged from their rooms, each wearing a mask. Their footsteps were measured on the cold floor. The night air slid through the slightly open windows, gently stirring the curtains, as if the house itself were breathing softly.
