Housemaids Book Novels & Stories

Izora felt the eyes of the mansion itself watching her as they passed golden mirrors and huge oil pictures of men in dark suits with eyes like Kaiser's. Their arrival found them in a peaceful study room with soft, navy-blue walls and books. One large window let sunlight flood the centre polished wood table. The air smells vaguely of new flowers, aged paper, and cologne she had started to link with power. The maid moved for her to sit. Izora watched. Before her was a neatly bound leather book. The cover page is Household Protocols. "You are expected to completely abide by these guidelines," the maid remarked quietly. “Otherwise, there are consequences.”

A few hours ago I'm Alice Clark. I'm twenty and have been working as a maid for the Wilson family since my mother died a year ago. Accepting my mother's death and then beginning to work as a maid to settle my mother's debt to the Wilson family were the most strenuous days of my life. I had no option but to work as a maid at this mansion.

No matter what, since heaven had given me a second chance at life, I absolutely could not allow the tragedy of my previous life to repeat itself. I returned to the bedroom and began ordering small home surveillance cameras online. In my previous life, when Megan first came to work in our home as a housekeeper, I had wanted to install cameras, but Daniel felt it would be disrespectful to someone living under our roof. Thinking back on it now, it was precisely because of our kindness that we had walked step by step into her trap.

If you could just make me thinner, I promise I would never miss another Sunday service again. Quickly, with a mixture of excitement and anxiety about the wedding, I descended the stairs in the direction of the Maid's chambers. Paradoxically, I felt both eager and anxious about what the future held. Mrs. Cha was waiting for me, boiling some delicious Indian chai leaves, and setting me some sweets and biscuits as a parting treat. She treated me with love and care, just as a mother would do for her child. Without a doubt, she would be much missed by me.

Heather got up and opened the door, revealing a chubby woman whose hair looked as dry as weeds and her waist thicker than a bucket. She was wearing the same clothes as Heather, which caused her to frown. “Who are you?” Sarah scrunched her nose. “Who am I? I’m this mansion’s housekeeper. How long are you going to carry on sleeping, you lazy slave?” Heather rubbed her temples. “I thought I was the only slave here in this mansion.” Sarah scoffed. “That’s right, you’re the only one here. The rest of us are employed.” Heather’s expression darkened.

One of the maids from the main house overheard her and suddenly stepped forward, slapping the nurse hard across the face. “Who do you think you are, talking like that?” the maid snarled. “We only listen to Madam. That homewrecker in the wheelchair doesn’t deserve anything! She’s just a cheap slut trying to steal Mr. Hale from Madam. She should be grateful we even let her stay here instead of throwing her back to the streets where she belongs!”

The sound of keys jingling and the lock clicking made my heart beat faster as I knew it was the start of another long and gruelling day. The hauntingly black figure of the head maid appeared in the dimly lit room of my quarters. She threw a charred piece of bread at the foot of my bed, which was to serve as my breakfast for the day. It was a bleak reminder of my position as a maid in High Hill Estate.

“I had Chef prepare it especially. I remembered it was your favourite dessert. It was your mother’s too wasn’t it?” Wren’s teeth clenched involuntarily, slightly. How dare she even mention her mother? Anthonia continued, “It’s wonderful what you've accomplished, especially considering everything. A failed marriage, starting over from nothing, making your way up without any….” She smiled, “Most women in your situation would have crumbled.” Wren took a deliberate bite of her crème brûlée as a way to immunise herself from Anthonia’s subtle jabs. “The custard is overcooked. Too much heat. It’s grainy.”

As predicted, it didn't take long for me to get home, I climbed the stairs that creaked with every step I took and went to shower, there weren't many clothes, so I needed to wash my underwear in the shower, so I would always have clean clothes to wear, as soon as I got a job I would buy some more, I had thousands before, I barely remembered to repeat any of them, but now? It was with sadness that I remembered my suitcase, which was so absurdly expensive that selling it was the only way to support myself, even without too many luxuries, for at least a couple of years. I sighed dejectedly. After my shower, I went downstairs to prepare some soup for dinner. Mom wasn't moving to do anything in t

I drowned myself in the shirt and true to what I thought, it was indeed very big for me in fact it was more like a king dress. As if it was planned, my stomach growled after I got dressed so I wore the pink flip flop that has been prepared ahead and went downstairs, hoping to see something that will suffice me. As soon as I got to the living room downstairs, I met a woman cleaning the chairs and I coughed lightly to get her attention. “ Good afternoon ma'am, I hope you enjoyed your rest. I am Mrs Kris, the head maid of this house, “ she introduced while eyeing me from head to toe.
