I nodded, overwhelmed. “Good. Now let me show you our library” Freya pushed the massive double doors open and I could not hold back a gasp. Shelves stretched from floor-to-ceiling and no matter how far I looked, it didn't seem to end. Some books floated in the air, flipping pages on their own. Though the library was huge, the books were neatly organized. “Admiring our collection?” Freya asked. I nodded, still in awe. “This is the heart of our coven. History, spell, rituals. Everything thing you need to know us in here”

"My room is next door. Do you want to see?" Carter glanced at me. I nodded and followed them into August's room which was tidier than James's by design. Everything had a place. Books organized by size, stuffed animals lined up by type, blocks in their container. August showed Carter his organization system with the same careful thoroughness he brought to everything. "Do you organize your things?" August asked. Testing. Seeing if they had this in common. "I do actually." Carter was looking at the book arrangement. "I like when things have a place."

Jaw-dropping. Ignoring Lysander, I descended the stairs, running my palm along the smooth wooden banister. I’d seen magazine pictures of magnificent libraries before, in various locations in Europe, but never one in real life. The ceiling was bewitched, showing a moving scene of brewing storm clouds. A huge, circular rug covered most of the wood floor. I had no doubt I could spend the rest of my life in here and be happy. I skimmed my fingertips over the spines on the nearest shelf. The books were organized into collections. One set of colored spines would end and a different one would begin. I inhaled deeply, rewarded with the dry musk scent of old paper and hardback casings.

I said. "It was very well organized," he said. "By region, then by subject, then by date of acquisition." "That's very specific." "I was seventeen and had a lot of time," he said. "My brothers were being groomed for things. I was being left alone, which was ideal." I thought about a seventeen-year-old Kael organizing a library by region, then subject, then date, in a border holding somewhere, planning a quiet life that hadn't arrived. "Does Blackthorne's library meet your standards?" I asked.

I can still feel the maids eyeing me, but I didn't mind them anymore to not make them uncomfortable with me. And while looking around the shelf, I noticed something wrong so I went to check the other shelves as well with a creased forehead. I glanced at the maids who were back to doing their jobs and noticed that one of them is arranging the books in the same way. "Excuse me?" They stopped from moving just to face me. I frowned at them. "Why is it that all the books are arranged according to what year it's published instead of by titles?" I looked back at the book beside me. "This one, the Lycans History from the Vampires invasion, is two books away from book two of this title. Why is that?"

"I'll be right here." I get up and wander toward the book sections. The library is organized by subject, with fiction on one side and non-fiction on the other. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, so I just start walking through the aisles, letting my eyes scan the shelves. I pass through the science section, then the history section, then literature. Nothing really grabs my attention until I reach the yearbook section. As I'm browsing through the section, one particular book catches my eye. It's a black book, smaller than most of the others on the shelf, and something about it draws me toward it.

“What am I supposed to do with those?” “They need to be put away,” she explained. “They go by authors and are in alphabetical order. Genre is on the side of the book, so they should be easy to find. I’m sure it’ll take you no time.” She turned to leave. “Wait, you're leaving?” I asked. “I’m afraid so. His Highness assigned other tasks for me this morning. I’m sure I’ll see you later, though,” she told me before she retreated from the library, leaving me in my personal hell.

“How can you understand this in just one look? Are you a librarian before?” “No.” “What do these lines mean? And before and after?” “Aren’t you an Owusu? Harbin says you have a massive collection of books.” “I’m not so fond of books, and besides we have someone who takes care of the organizing.” I roll my eyes. “At least you are willing to help.” I move closer to him and point at the lines. “This is the subject, the author’s last name and date of publication.” “Then?” he asks. And in great lengths, I start to explain how to do the organization. I even gave him examples so it will be easier. Once I am done, I look up at him, instead of the instructions, he is staring at my face.

Her lips pressed together in a tight line, she looked at me for another hard minute before nodding 'Alpha' at me and walking out of the library. While I sat there, hoping she either bought my lie or at least is just willing to help me, no questions asked. I was just packing everything back, trying hard to place all the books where I had found them, which proved to be a bit difficult since I had taken so many and the books were not arranged in an alphabetical manner. It had been in a chronological manner, which I found out after a painful twenty minutes of trying to match letters and serial numbers.
