Einen Monat vor unserer Hochzeit verkündete mein Verlobter, dass er mit seiner ersten großen Liebe ein Kind zeugen wolle. Ich war dagegen, doch er brachte es Tag für Tag zur Sprache. Zwei Wochen vor der Hochzeit erhielt ich einen Schwangerschaftstest. Erst da erfuhr ich, dass seine erste Liebe bereits seit fast einem Monat schwanger war. Er hatte nie vorgehabt, meine Zustimmung einzuholen. In diesem Moment lösten sich unsere jahrelangen Gefühle in Luft auf. Also sagte ich die Hochzeit ab, vernichtete alle Erinnerungen an ihre gemeinsame Zeit und begab mich am geplanten Hochzeitstag in ein abgeschottetes Forschungslabor. Von da an hatte ich nichts mehr mit ihm zu tun!

An meinem Hochzeitstag wurden mein Verlobter und meine jüngere Schwester Rachel erwischt, wie sie leidenschaftlich in der privaten Lounge miteinander schliefen. Ich war überzeugt, bei ihm meine Heimat gefunden zu haben … Bis ich eines Tages zufällig mitbekam, wie er sich mit einem Freund unterhielt. „Jason, du bist wirklich skrupellos. Nina ist so gut zu dir. Wie konntest du einfach ihre Eizelle gegen Rachels austauschen, nur weil Rachel zu viel Angst vor der Geburt hat? Das Baby kommt in zwei Monaten zur Welt. Was willst du dann tun?“ Jason schwieg einen Moment, dann seufzte er. „Sobald das Baby da ist, gebe ich es Rachel. Damit erfülle ich ihr einen Herzenswunsch. Was Nina angeht … ich werde ihr einfach sagen, dass wir das Baby verloren haben. Ich werde es wieder gutmachen, indem ich für den Rest ihres Lebens bei ihr bleibe.“ Also so war das. Er hatte mich all die Zeit nur ihretwegen so behutsam beschützt. Ohne zu zögern ging ich weg und vereinbarte einen Termin für den Abbruch. Dieses unreine Kind wollte ich nicht. Und diese betrügerische Ehe erst recht nicht.

Als ich nach einer Injektion mit einer gewaltigen Dosis Wolfsgift gelähmt im Bett lag, gab mein Alpha-Gefährte das Gegenmittel, das ich gefunden hatte, zuerst seiner ersten Liebe. Ich musste ihn anflehen, mir wenigstens einen kleinen Teil des Gegenmittels zu überlassen, damit ich noch drei Tage überleben und nach einem anderen Heilmittel suchen könnte. Doch der Alpha wollte nichts davon hören. Er brüllte mich an: „Julia liegt im Sterben, und du tust immer noch so, als wärst du krank! Hör auf mit deiner Eifersucht, enttäusch mich nicht noch mehr!“ Auf Befehl des Alphas wurde ich in einem Zimmer eingesperrt. Schließlich starb ich an der Wolfsgiftvergiftung, und als der Alpha von meinem Tod erfuhr, grub er wie von Sinnen mein Grab auf.

Nach sechs Jahren an Joels Seite landete Lyra im Krankenhaus – krank und ausgezehrt.
