Jennie gives me a patient smile. “First, you need to calm down. Take a deep breath, clear your mind, and focus on shifting back. Picture yourself in your human form.”
“Clear my mind, huh? Great advice for someone whose mind is currently a dumpster fire,” I said, above a whisper.
But I close my eyes and try to follow her instructions.
I take a deep breath, focusing on the image of my human self. For a moment, I feel like I would actually shift, but then the pain hits me like a truck. My muscles spasm, and I’m back to square one. “Dammit!”
