The Emperor raised one hand. A sphere of darkness appeared above his palm. Inside it floated thousands of tiny stars. "Do you know what these are?" None of us answered. "They are the final memories of worlds that chose endless war." He closed his hand. The stars vanished. "They destroyed themselves." "The Void merely granted them peace." "No," Wesley replied firmly. Hade asked, raising an eyebrow. “Of course. We ended on good terms,” I said, drinking a glass of water. I guess. After he told me he was talking to someone, I never reached out again. That was the signal, right? Like, we were already moving on—shouldn’t it end there? That was it, right?

He's right but I love to argue, "But if he kills her, he doesn't have an escape anymore." "How much do you wanna bet he kills her in the end?" "I say he won't and he turns himself in so $20." "$20 it is." He smiled and we went back to watching. The movie ended with him never getting caught and they lived happily together and had a son. He sighed, "A bit of sour ending, after they got together I was expecting something along the lines of murder-suicide." "How is that sour? That's sweet." I argued. He turned to me and smiled, it made me feel conscious of myself, I couldn't look at him but looking anywhere else made me feel weird.

It should have ended at the gate. That was the thing I kept returning to afterward — the fact that it should have ended there, cleanly, with Jace's quiet command to stand down and the gate opening and whatever formal, difficult conversation happened between two Alphas in the aftermath of an unlawful taking being the worst of it. It should have been tense and costly and politically complicated and it should have ended there. It didn't end there.

Once the movie started, all my thoughts faded to the back of my mind as scenes after scenes flashed before me. After an hour, the movie finally ended. I was deeply moved by the ending, so much so that I even wiped tears from my cheeks. When River saw this, his eyes creased with amusement. “Hey, it's not real,” River gently admonished me as he passed me a handkerchief. “Besides, I think the male lead died a noble death. He died because of the woman he loved.” I countered, “But there was no need for him to choose such a drastic method in the first place. Why didn't he ask her opinion first before leaving her behind?”
