He reached down, grabbed his suit jacket from the armchair, and pulled the folded, heavy sheets of our surrogate marriage agreement from the inner pocket.
He looked at me, a soft, genuine smile breaking through his exhaustion. "We do not need this anymore."
I grabbed one side of the thick paper. Damien held the other.
Together, with a single, sharp, and final rip, we tore the marriage contract down the middle. The pieces fluttered out of our hands, falling to the floor like useless trash.
"No more contracts," Damien said, his hands moving to cup my waist.
"No more boundaries," I replied, a watery smile breaking through my tears.
