Four Realms of Desire
She stared at the wall and counted her breaths.
He worked methodically, never rushing, never pulling. The backs of his fingers grazed her skin through the thin fabric, each time a little lower, each time more deliberate. When he reached the final button low against her spine, the dress loosened and fell to the floor, leaving her standing in only her shift.
“Is that better?” he asked.
She nodded. The sound of rain filled the room.
Slowly, he slipped the shift down her arm, exposing her shoulder and the curve of her throat. His fingers lingered. She could smell the sharpness of horse and sweat and rain.
